The role
A senior designer is responsible for producing high quality project design deliverables from concept generation to both FF&E specification and construction documents. They work directly with the lead designers on tasks and deliverables to ensure the facilitation of a project’s completion. They oversee one large, or multiple smaller projects simultaneously and are responsible of their team that consists of designers from junior to mid levels.
Main duties:
- producing high quality project design deliverables from concept phase to construction packages
- works closely with the interior designers providing general support, effective design management processes and implementation initiatives
- coordination of all internal and external consultants on a project
- ensures project milestones and deadlines are met with the overview of lead designer where appropriate
- red pens, monitors project schedules, design drawings and oversees the prototype process
- responsible for the project timetable and interior design budget and works closely with procurement agent to ensure smooth delivery of his/her projects
- ensures that the integrity of the agreed design solutions are maintained by taking responsibility for the development of the design and the project
- undertakes an ongoing review of subsequent stages with the input from the lead designer for key project stages
- manages team work flow and efficiency
- sends weekly reports of his/her projects where applicable
- assigns project hours to Harvest on a daily level
Team management:
- monitors resources on his/her projects
- acts as a mentor and helps managing the career development of the design team
- helps maintaining a general staff well being and a happy and positive work environment
Standards/project running
Ensuring projects follow office standards, and helps keeping standards up to date with project info, project admin, maintaining design programme
Ensures resources are available for the team (Software, Hardware, Lib Data), purchasing, etc.
Works closely together with lead designer to ensure continuous improvement of Soho House standards (handbook for starters, schedules, suppliers list, filing structure, check lists)
Project responsibilities:
Stage 1: initial concept
- familiarises his/herself with internal project programme/deadlines/ budget
- responsible for overall concept direction with the overview of lead designer
- offering clear guidance and inspiration for team in the concept phase
- reviews concept package with team
- responsible for organising regular reviews with lead designer
Stage 2: detailed concept
- responsible for final layout plan, ensuring that it meets all client/operational requirements
- reviews and gives guidance for proposed FF&E with team members
- review of FF&E budget with procurement manager
- responsible for ensuring all finishes meet technical, financial and operations requirements
Stage 3: detailed design package
- creates/issues tender packages
- liaises with project design team to ensure coordination between drawings
- involvement in V.E workshops
- liaising with procurement manager to ensure their understanding of design intent
- manages RFI’s
- reviews and red pens drawing packages for fit out (to tender) and specification documents for FF&E (to tender)
- reviews construction drawings
- final sign off of workshop drawings with the overview of lead designer
- oversees and monitors prototype development with the overview of lead designer
Stage 4: site attendance
- attends site meetings
- attends all design team meetings
- works with procurement team to coordinate delivery/installation
Stage 5: installation and handover
- management and coordination of site installation
- creates detailed and user friendly handover document
- responsible for snagging and follow-up process
