What is the company's vision?
"We believe that, at its best, architecture provokes memories, frames experiences and prompts change.
"Across scales and typologies we follow the principle that intensive thought and problem-solving at the design input stage leads to an intensity of effect for users and the public at the built output stage.
"Our work exists in historic, sensitive and iconic contexts – both urban and rural. The same attention to detail and commitment to design integrity is present no matter the scale, from cutlery to city. But whilst the process is consistent, the results are unique to each context and set of conditions."
What is the practice working on?
"Our practice is working on a range of projects, including One Millenium Bridge, a highly sustainable deep retrofit on a significant and complex site in one of the most prominent locations in London.
"It is also working on Appold Street, a deep retrofit in The City, and one of the largest and most complex projects to date.
"We're also working on Berkeley Square, the new global headquarters one of the worlds most revered fashion brands, and Exchange House, where we're using choreographed interventions to humanise and transform an icon in The City.
"Other projects include workspace Fairfax House, entertainment space Apartment 21 and the largest all-timber office in the UK, XYLO."
What is the culture like at Piercy & Company?
"We are passionate about our subject matter and work with a sense of curiosity and ambition.
"We are innovators – always at the leading edge of material advances, sustainable practice and advances in building technologies.
"At the same time, we are fundamentally grounded in a design practice that responds to the particularities of context, place and the human experience.
"We are hands-on. We make models and prototypes; know our materials and where they come from. We work closely with fabricators, craftspeople and makers, and we take our projects to site, fully delivering many of them.
"As a studio, we support our people with enhanced parental policies, wellbeing offers, including massage, gym classes, activities, and have a creative programme of lectures, demonstrations, site and studio visits in addition to the core CPD offer. We support ties to academia and many of our senior team teach part-time.
"We are also social, celebrating project milestones and achievements, heading to the pub on Fridays and hosting dinners and lunches for project teams."
What are the career opportunities at Piercy & Company?
"Creating and maintaining a supportive, inclusive environment has been a key pillar of our growth from the earliest days of Piercy & Company. We are now an Employee Owned Trust (EOT) and these values are at our foundation.
"We're agile, always pushing boundaries and developing new ideas. Our strength is our people and we invest in their development through mentoring, training, CPD and policies aimed at creating equal opportunities for everyone.
"If we can attract, invest in and retain the very best people, we’ll continue to deliver the highest quality designs."
What qualities does Piercy & Company look for when it's hiring?
"We look for people who will bring a diverse range of backgrounds and perspectives. In architects and designers we look for a portfolio that shows an interest in the world, a search for elegant ways of approaching complexity and anything that marks a body of work out as having a distinctive point of view.
"With regards to the people, client and project management skills integral to most design roles, we are looking for candidates that are inquisitive and fundamentally interested in other people.
"Many skills can be taught or developed, but a genuine interest in others seems to be the best foundation for the studio, project, client and team management aspects of the role."
What makes Piercy & Company stand out?
"New recruits comment that they are attracted by the design quality and commitment to refinement of ideas and forms.
"They are attracted to the emphasis on 'design-through-making' – a passion for craft and the centrality of the studio's workshop.
"As a design studio, you always hope that potential employees connect intuitively with the design output and ethos and are motivated by a desire to be part of it."
Anything else we should know about?
"We are based out of a studio and workshop in London where interdisciplinary teams work together in a collaborative 'design house' model. The studio is a place for exchange, active production and the testing of ideas, forms and materials.
"In 2022, Piercy & Company became an EOT, solidifying our approach as a design house and amplifying our collaborative endeavours."
