About us
Motive is a design and build studio specialising in contemporary spatial projects for brands.
From our South London studio, we work with an international network of local suppliers to deliver high-impact projects through a low-impact lens.
With a direct focus on retail experiences, activations, experiential and commercial interiors. We work with clients including GANNI, Smythson, Byredo and London Museum.
About you
You will have over 10 years’ of experience working within a design, experiential or production agency. You will be an inspiring and engaging team leader who is able to successfully manage and develop a small but powerful team. You will have a keen interest on how design and production has an impact on both people and the planet, and you will support the company in establishing and onboarding initiatives that have a positive impact.
The projects director will oversee the successful delivery of all projects running through the Motive studio with a focus on the direction of the Project Management team. Collaborating with the Design Director and Managing Director to ensure that projects run successfully, efficiently and profitably.
Key responsibilities
Projects:
- inspire, educate and maintain momentum within the Projects Team
- maintain visibility on all projects running through the studio
- take briefs and manage initial client introductions for large-scale projects with new and existing clients
- oversee and run RFP’s and pitches
- work with the Design and Projects team to define how projects are delivered from both a services and production perspective
- analyse and sign off on quotes for both design and management time and
production costs - ensure that all projects delivered by the studio run successfully, profitably and on schedule
- manage the resourcing of all projects from a Project Management perspective with the assistance of the Studio Assistant
- work with the Design Director to ensure that the Design and Project management teamwork in a collaborative manner
- collaborate with the Design Director to develop and enhance processes and systems to ensure that each team runs successfully and efficiently
- oversee and provide coaching to members of the team on their communications with clients
- encouraging a proactive, approachable and professional rapport
- act as guardian and QC for projects managed by other members of the Projects Team
- question the Projects Team use of suppliers, building methods and materials before projects go into production
- attend high value installations both in the UK and internationally
- provide holiday cover and support within the projects team where required
- review client accounts and identify opportunities to grow accounts or diversify Motive’s offering
Team management:
- manage the Project Management team, including a full time team of 3 and 2-3 freelancers at one time, with support from the Project Lead
- successfully manage contracted members of the Projects team with weekly 1:1 sessions and quarterly reviews
- manage the hiring of contracted members of the Projects Team with the support of the Project Lead
- oversee the on-boarding of Projects team members and freelancers with the support of the Project Lead
- manage training of Projects team staff in studio or on external courses
Finance:
- work to maximise revenue streams to ensure the company meets its financial
objectives and targets - sign off PO sheets and project budgets
- create a weekly project forecast
Stakeholder management and communication:
- build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers and third-party consultants
Compliance:
- oversee and track the auditing of all Bonafide Subcontractors, ensuring that their H&S, ethical practices and insurance align with the requirements of Motive Productions
- ensure that all suppliers sign the Motive Supplier agreement
- revisiting supplier audits, contracts and rules annually
- ensure that all projects are managed appropriately from a CDM perspective
- work with external H&S advisors, the Design and Project Management teams, the Managing Director and company Insurance provider to maintain a high level of compliance
- safeguard environmental policies and targets that have been set for the company
- oversee the Projects Team on the suitable selection of Bonafide Subcontractors and suppliers
- insuring that the appropriate contractors & suppliers are selected for each project
Strategy:
- work with the Managing and Design Directors to work towards targets and milestones relating to quarterly KPI’s and annual targets
- regularly monitor the Motive offering to ensure the company is providing services that align with our clients requirements
- review client accounts and identify opportunities to grow the account and diversify the offering
Requirements:
- a highly experienced project manager with over 10 years agency experience
- a solid understanding of the creative and production process – able to articulate a range of creative processes and their project/resource needs
adept in forecasting project needs, problem solving and trafficking resource time - have a flair for managing and optimising processes, combined with an openness and adaptability to new ways of working
- proven ability to manage companies and projects with financial accountability
- professional and calm manner
- ability to manage a studio where multiple projects are being managed in tandem
- a vested interest in the environment and community engagement
