Michaelis Boyd is seeking an architect to work on East African projects to join its team in London or Kenya.

Michaelis Boyd is looking for an architect to work on hospitality and residential projects across East Africa in remote locations, based in its London or Kenyan office.

Responsibilities:

  • Michaelis Boyd is looking for an architect to work on hospitality and residential projects across East Africa in remote locations, working closely with other project leads, directors and partners in the London office to run projects effectively and efficiently
  • work on projects from concept to completion, including creating presentation material, drawings  for planning applications and produce detailed tender packages for various projects, sometimes of a complex nature
  • working to deliver projects on site in remote locations, ensuring required standards of quality and consistency are achieved
  • collaborate with multiple external consultants, such as structural and mechanical engineers, to incorporate specific technical details within the drawings
  • present work to founders and partners, and to address queries and provide project management support
  • work closely with a director and partner while maintaining a proactive and communicative approach, ensuring updates, issues, and resolutions are effectively conveyed to relevant stakeholders
  • demonstrate creativity through the use of 3D modelling, hand-drawing, and 2D design, particularly in high-end hospitality and residential projects
  • have experience in producing technical drawings at both building scale and detail
  • manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering thorough and accurate drawings within tight deadlines
  • exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Requirements:

  • the ideal candidate should have passion and experience in working in remote locations within the East Africa region and enthusiasm for travel as the projects will require multiple site visits and in some cases for long periods
  • three plus years’ post Part 3 or equivalent qualification with experience in high-end hospitality and residential projects
  • ability to produce architectural and interior tender packages
  • experience running multiple projects from concept design through to delivery and completion
  • impressive portfolio showcasing high-quality design work, including experience in all project stages, hand-drawings and CAD technical detailing – Vectorworks is advantageous
  • fluent in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign)
  • proficiency in 3D visualization tools such as VW, Enscape, and Lumion is advantageous
  • someone with an independent and progressive mindset who can work well as part of a team or with a project lead
