Freelance interior architect/technical designer

Mehrai Design is seeking an experienced freelance interior architect/technical designer to join its London studio.

Mehrai Design is looking for a strong all-round interior architect/technical designer with a balance of technical ability, design sensibility and delivery experience to support a range of high-end hospitality, wellness, workplace and residential projects.

This is a freelance, studio-based role in South West London.

We are seeking someone who is confident producing drawing packages and technical information, while also contributing creatively to the wider design process. The role would suit someone highly organised, proactive and detail-driven, with a strong understanding of interior architecture, spatial planning, joinery detailing and project coordination.

The ideal candidate will have solid UK project experience and be comfortable working across multiple stages of a project, from developed design through to delivery and site coordination.

Responsibilities include:

  • producing detailed drawing packages across RIBA Stages 3–4
  • developing bespoke joinery, interior architectural and FF&E details
  • preparing schedules, specifications and technical documentation
  • supporting spatial planning, design development and technical coordination
  • coordinating consultant, supplier and contractor information
  • assisting with FF&E integration and procurement coordination
  • responding to site queries and supporting delivery on site
  • undertaking site visits and reviewing design quality and intent
  • supporting project teams across hospitality, wellness, commercial and residential projects
  • contributing to presentations and wider studio design development where required

Requirements:

  • minimum of five to eight years’ professional UK experience
  • strong AutoCAD skills essential
  • Revit proficiency highly advantageous
  • SketchUp proficiency essential
  • good understanding of technical interior detailing and construction methods
  • strong joinery and interior architectural detailing ability
  • experience producing drawing packages and technical information
  • knowledge of materials, finishes and FF&E coordination
  • hospitality, wellness, residential or commercial project experience preferred
  • organised, proactive and detail-focused approach
  • good communication and coordination skills
  • ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small studio environment
  • right to work in the UK
