Material Source Studio is looking for a designer – displays and exhibits to join its team in Manchester, UK.
Location: Manchester Studio – travel required across London, Manchester and Glasgow Studios, plus occasional travel to partner sites, events and exhibitions
Reporting to: marketing manager and dotted line to the creative director

Salary: £35,000 per annum, with annual pay reviews

Role purpose
Material Source Studio is the UK’s leading physical and digital destination for architects, designers and specifiers to discover and specify building products, connecting them with manufacturing partners across three Studios in London, Manchester and Glasgow.
This role is the main point of contact for our 54 partners across all three Studios on their PODs – the physical displays that bring their products to life in each Studio.
You’ll work closely with our marketing team and creative director to design, develop and refine these displays, and to produce exhibitions, installations and events that keep the Studios fresh, relevant and engaging.
This is a hands-on role for someone with an exhibition / retail design or creative merchandising background, who enjoys working directly with partners, managing multiple projects, and seeing physical displays come to life from concept to installation.
Key responsibilities
Partner PODs:
- act as the main point of contact for all 54 partners across the three Studios re their PODs and displays
- work with partners to design, develop and refine their PODs, ensuring displays stay current and effective
- meet regularly with existing and new partners to make sure their PODs are working commercially for them
Exhibitions and displays:
- work with the Material Source Studio internal teams to produce exhibits and displays across all three Studios, including external exhibitions/external brands using our spaces
- manage the continued development of the Future Materials Library®, the UK’s largest open collection of regenerative materials for the built environment
- manage the rolling What’s New collection areas in each Studio, showcasing the latest products from our partners
Events and installations:
- produce displays and installations for key industry events at the Studios, such as Clerkenwell Design Week
- support the execution of creative events and workshops across the Studios
Day-to-day:
- work closely with the Material and Product Advisors in each Studio
- work with graphics teams and suppliers, including our fabricators and print companies
Experience and skills:
- strong design background, ideally with a background in exhibition / retail design
- be ‘hands-on’ and comfortable building and maintaining physical displays
- great communication and organisational skills
- strong work ethic and a hardworking approach
- good team player, also equally comfortable working on your own initiative
- commercial awareness, with an understanding of partners’ sales and marketing objectives
- comfortable managing multiple projects at once
Proficient in:
- AutoCAD
- SketchUp or equivalent
- Microsoft – Full suite
