Part 2 architectural assistant
at Burrell Foley Fischer

Burrell Foley Fischer is hiring a Part 2 architectural assistant to join its team in London.

Join our London studio and grow your career on some of the country’s most rewarding heritage, sport and cultural projects.

We’re on the lookout for a Part 2 architectural assistant who’s keen to develop their skills, contribute ideas and build strong working relationships within a close team. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

Our current workload takes in the refurbishment of historic theatres, the conservation of listed music venues, new stands for heritage sports grounds and the design of civic buildings; a broad mix that gives everyone in the studio plenty to learn from.

Who we are

Burrell Foley Fischer is a 30-strong architecture practice specialising in heritage, cultural and performing arts projects, with particular expertise in the technical challenges of adapting and transforming existing buildings.

Few practices spend their working lives working on places that communities already value. We do. Our client portfolio spans theatres, sports stands, concert halls, schools, visitor attractions and other cultural institutions across the UK, delivering projects that balance conservation with contemporary use. This year we have once again been shortlisted for Architect of the Year, reflecting the ambition, quality and collaborative approach that define our studio.

Every project presents a new challenge, offering the opportunity to work on significant buildings with talented clients and multidisciplinary teams.

About the role

We’re recruiting a Part 2 architectural assistant, to embed within one of our project teams.

The role involves working alongside qualified architects and directors across the full RIBA design and delivery process. From early concept sketches through to construction detailing on site. You’ll get genuine exposure to complex, high-quality briefs from day one, in a studio where responsibility is handed over gradually and support is always close by.

Ideally, you will:

  • thrive in a team setting, pitching in and pulling together with colleagues and outside consultants
  • bring energy and curiosity to your work, and a real appetite for learning
  • be actively working towards Part 3 and keen to keep developing professionally
  • care about heritage buildings and the craft of adapting and reusing existing structures
  • take satisfaction in getting technical detail right, not just the big design moves
  • be a confident communicator, comfortable asking for input and acting on feedback
  • have a working grasp of UK Building Regulations and construction practice
  • be competent in Revit, with Vectorworks experience a bonus

Sample of our workload

Recent and ongoing projects include:

  • grade-listed theatres and concert venues
  • historic stadia and grandstand redevelopments
  • schemes backed by the National Lottery Heritage Fund
  • conservation-led refurbishment and reuse of older buildings
  • civic and cultural commissions
  • contemporary additions set within historic contexts

Variety is very much the norm here.

What we offer

This is a rare chance to work on buildings most people only ever admire from the outside.

Our studio is small enough that your contribution is noticed and your growth genuinely matters to us. The work is demanding in the best sense; intellectually engaging, hands-on, and never repetitive; and we hold onto the belief that good architecture comes out of teams that talk to each other, stay curious, and sweat the details.

In return, you can expect:

  • a stream of nationally significant, technically interesting projects
  • hands-on mentoring as you work towards Part 3
  • proper involvement at every RIBA stage, not just drawing production
  • a clear framework for ongoing professional development
  • a warm, collaborative studio culture
  •  a competitive salary based on your experience

Applying

Please send us:

  • your CV
  • a portfolio showing a mix of design thinking and technical delivery
  • your expected salary
  • a covering letter telling us why Burrell Foley Fischer appeals to you and what you’re hoping to find in your next role

What drives you matters just as much to us as your career history so far.

We’d welcome someone who can start at short notice.

Burrell Foley Fischer is an equal opportunities employer.

Please, no recruitment agencies. We’ll be in touch only with candidates going forward to interview.
