Senior spatial designer – brand and retail experiences
at Sunst Studio
Sunst is looking for a senior spatial designer – brand and retail experiences to join its team in Berlin, Germany.
Your mission
As a senior spatial designer at Sunst, you develop concepts and design spaces, installations and objects for brands operating across sport, fashion and contemporary culture.
We are looking for someone with a strong design perspective, good instincts and a hands-on approach – someone who understands brands, knows what makes a space relevant and can turn ideas into well-considered physical environments.
Our work ranges from retail concepts and pop-ups to brand activations, exhibitions and bespoke installations. Some projects start with a blank page, others with an existing creative direction or established brand guidelines. You should feel comfortable working with both, knowing when to introduce something new and when to build on what’s already there.
You work across concept, design development and realization, with a strong eye for materials, proportions and details.
Concept and creative development:
- develop spatial concepts and design directions from initial briefs
- research and explore references across architecture, design, fashion, sport and culture
- work with existing brand guidelines and creative concepts, adapting and developing them for different spaces and applications
- explore materials, forms, objects and spatial arrangements
- communicate ideas through sketches, references, moodboards, renderings and presentations
Spatial design:
- design retail environments, pop-ups, installations, brand activations and bespoke objects
- develop layouts, spatial compositions, material concepts and furniture elements
- connect spatial design with graphics, storytelling and brand identity
- work across different scales, from individual details to complete environments
- balance design ambition with functionality, budgets and production requirements
Design development and realisation:
- develop concepts into clear and convincing spatial designs
- work hands-on with SketchUp, Enscape, Adobe Creative Suite and relevant AI tools
- prepare layouts, material studies, design details and visualisations
- collaborate with technical planners, producers and fabricators
- stay involved throughout development and production to maintain design quality
Collaboration:
- work closely with our creative, spatial design and production teams
- bring ideas, references and your own perspective into the creative process
- present and discuss your work with confidence
- take responsibility for your design work from concept to realization
Your profile:
- six plus years’ of experience in spatial design, ideally within branded retail, experiential design or brand activations
- a strong portfolio showing original ideas, design development and realized projects, not just visualisations
- experience working with consumer brands, ideally across sport, fashion, lifestyle or contemporary culture
- a good understanding of brand identities, design guidelines and how to translate them into physical environments
- strong design sensibility, with an eye for materials, proportions, composition and detail
- interest in contemporary design, fashion, sport and outdoor culture
- advanced skills in SketchUp and Enscape or comparable 3D tools
- good knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and visual presentation tools
- familiarity with AI tools for concept exploration and visualization
- understanding of construction methods, materials and production processes
- comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- confident in communicating and presenting design ideas
- fluent in English; German is a plus
What we value
We value people with a strong point of view, curiosity and a genuine interest in design and culture – people who bring ideas to the table, question the obvious and care about the details.
You should enjoy developing new concepts as much as working within an existing creative direction, and understand that good design is not always about reinventing everything.
Application
Please include your portfolio and one selected project case study showing your creative process, from initial concept to final design. We are interested in understanding your individual contribution, including sketches, references, design development, renderings and, ideally, photographs of the realized project.
Why us?
- work on projects across sport, fashion, retail and contemporary culture
- collaborate with international brands on retail environments, experiences and installations
- be involved from early concept development through to realization
- work with a multidisciplinary team of designers, creatives and producers
- bring your own ideas and design perspective into the studio
