About the role
We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic landscape architect with suitable professional experience to expand our award winning team of landscape and urban designers based in Glasgow’s attractive West End.
Our diverse team has a friendly and informal working atmosphere, but we are passionate about the quality of our work, providing the best solutions for our clients and the environment, and making excellent ‘people places’.
We have an expanding portfolio of challenging and high profile projects including university campuses, public realm, streetscapes, parks, access and heritage work.
Recent major projects include:
- public realm design for the University of Glasgow’s Gilmorehil Campus extension (ongoing)
- Newcastle Science Central Ph1 public realm design
- Shawfield regeneration project (phases 1 and 2 ongoing)
- Inverness City Centre, Irvine and Maybole Town centres public realm
- urban regeneration and access projects for Scottish canals
- landscape conservation projects including the ongoing Lews Castle
- grounds on Lewis, and Haddo Country Park (Aberdeenshire)
- heritage/tourism projects for National Nature Reserves and World Heritage
- sites (e.g. heart of prehistoric Orkney, Antonine Wall and various sites within Edinburgh WHS)
You will therefore have the opportunity to engage with a wide range of projects working alongside senior staff with strong reputations in the industry.
Our design projects are primarily UK-focused and LUC respects the need of staff to balance their home and working lives. We are therefore happy to discuss flexible working arrangements for this role, including part time working, flexible start/finish times and partial home working.
About you
We are looking for an experienced landscape architect and we are interested in talking to you if are recently chartered or more established/senior.
The position requires a combination of design flair and technical competence. You should have good all round skills in: design from concept to detail, graphic presentation, and verbal and written communication. Proficiency in both hard and soft landscape design will be beneficial.
It is important that you have the ability to work collaboratively, articulate ideas and communicate effectively within an internal team structure as well as with external parties.
You will be comfortable and competent dealing directly with clients and have the confidence and experience to manage projects independently, but know when to seek support if this is necessary.
Proficient use of AutoCAD and Adobe software is a minimum requirement ideally supplemented by the ability to communicate with hand drawings and sketches. Proficient use of 3D software packages would be beneficial.
A degree and/or a post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline is required. Chartered membership of the Landscape Institute status is preferred.
Many of our sites are located in remote locations so a driving licence would be beneficial, but not essential.
In this role you will be expected to develop your career through actively contributing to LUC’s award-winning portfolio with diverse and challenging projects as well as contribute to business development and marketing initiatives.
