Product designer
at Heathfield & Co
Heathfield & Co is seeking a product designer to join its team in Tonbridge, UK.
Heathfield & Co are designers and manufacturers of the very finest decorative lighting.
We work with some of the world’s leading interior designers on their most prestigious projects around the globe, from fine luxury hotels to some of the standout residential properties being built today.

Main responsibilities
Design and technical production:
- develop new product aligned to the design vision of Heathfield & Co
- design, create and prototype new products for inclusion in the Heathfield ranges
- ensure the design process is integrated within the other disciplines of the company – especially commercial, marketing and operations
- agree final specifications including full CAD drawings, parts lists and costings of products
- present all new design ideas for approval by the Heathfield exec management team
Project management:
- coordinate the process of new product development with our product, projects and technical design teams ensuring that all departments work efficiently together
- arrange meetings to liaise with all departments, including marketing, to discuss and agree the details surrounding proposed new product introduction
- initiate design improvements to the existing product portfolio (in conjunction with the product manager and other team members)
- support the development, planning and management of exhibition, showroom displays and photography sets with appropriate departments
- schedule and take part in design team meetings associated with and aimed at the development of new products
- work on ideas as part of a team to help with the development of all design concepts and ideas
- occasional travel to suppliers to evaluate the feasibility of manufacturing capabilities and quality control metrics
Skills:
- technical and product design skills of a professional with at least three years’ industry experience, preferably in a company designing and manufacturing similar products
- excellent problem solving and analytical abilities
- the proven ability to work successfully both as part of a small team and on your own
- high degree of commercial awareness, demonstrated through experience and knowledge of developing products to client specifications
- expert knowledge of 3D CAD systems preferably Autodesk Inventor and Vault
- an understanding of working towards similar product standards within a similar industry
- thorough understanding of production processes and methods associated with decorative lighting
- excellent sketching and communication skills
General:
- establish, maintain and develop effective working relationships with colleagues, customers and suppliers
- undertake all reasonable duties and tasks as part of the wider Heathfield team
