About this role

We create creative and engaging spaces for our clients; both in the design and in the way we build and construct them. We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual who is design focused, highly organised and efficient at multitasking to join the team as a project architect.

Our work is very detailed and most of our projects are situated within complex planning environments. We pride ourselves on our relationships with our clients, wider design team and our build team.

The individual will work alongside our design team (qualified architects), operations team (systems and processes), on-site contractors.

The project architect is a critical role within the team helping us provide an architect led design and build service for our clients. Our project architects work with the client from inception to completion of a project, ensuring that all of our projects are delivered with an exacting level of detail. Our project architects communicate closely with the clients as well as internal teams and the contractor. The role demands excellent organisation, detailed design experience, problem-solving, communication and client facing skills.

This is a unique role to work with an award-winning architectural firm that is now offering a full design and build service for clients. Working from initial concept design right through delivery on site using a combination of our in house build teams and external sub-contractors. The candidate will also get an opportunity to contribute to the design of the technology we’re creating to help us run our projects to the best of our ability.

Key responsibilities:

  • lead, oversee project documentation delivery
  • manage a combination of architects and designers including time and monetary targets
  • monthly reporting of project expenditure and resource planning
  • assist with work programming and tracking
  • development of office technical standards and associated drawings and schedules
  • review of consultant appointment documentation
  • to design and manage to set budgets
  • translate design concepts into reality
  • complete design analysis and research suitable solutions to detailing
  • production or directing and overseeing, of CAD drawings, details, CGIs, specifications and other documentation to the construction stage
  • review, comment and integrate information by specialist subcontractors including statusing of shop drawings
  • undertake site inspections and surveys
  • procurement and installation of FF&E – or coordination and overseeing
  • ensure office standards and level of quality is met on each project
  • meeting with client representatives, contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and consultants of the company or our clients, etc. in our offices or abroad as necessary
  • meeting with suppliers and manufacturers representatives, keeping abreast with current legislation, regulations and codes of practice relevant to all duties and responsibilities undertaken

Key areas of competence:

  • producing work on time, to a high professional standard
  • detailed working knowledge of the JCT suite of contracts and the CA roles associated with them
  • detailed knowledge of current building regulations and their application
  • detailed knowledge of the Party Wall Act 1996 including the types of notice and processes involved in serving them and forming awards
  • self‐motivated to use initiative in undertaking or continuing a task without supervision
  • good time-keeping and work ethic that is characterised by commitment, motivation and energy
  • ability to work in the face of pressure and setbacks
  • ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people and work cooperatively with others as part of a team, as opposed to working separately or competitively
  • ability to manage a budget
  • spatial problem solving with the ability to prepare alternative design solutions quickly with an affinity with three-dimensional design
  • understanding and knowledgeable about finishes, materials and suppliers
  • a detailed approach, demanding the highest standards
  • good time management and organisational skills
  • excellent written and spoken English
  • advanced user of AutoCAD LT 2018
  • good hand sketching ability
  • project management experience from concept to delivery
  • producing detailed design and construction drawing packages
  • producing FF&E specifications – excellent and up to date supplier knowledge
  • producing client design presentation packages
  • proficiency in Google Sheets and Docs, willingness to use new software/ solutions

Qualifications and experience:

  • ARB registered
  • three years’ plus post-Part 3 experience
  • excellent communicator
  • strong knowledge of construction materials and processes
  • experience in running architectural projects up to a net construction cost of up to £2,000,000.00

Remuneration and fringe benefits, details and milestones:

  • salary expectation £36,000 – £40,000 depending upon experience
  • 20 days paid holidays, 7 days paid bank holidays, office closed between Christmas and New Year (additional paid holiday)
  • pension scheme, travel expenses, annual bonus scheme
  • six months probation period
