Mid-weight interior designer and FF&E procurement manager

Philippa Thorp Design is looking for a mid-weight interior designer and FF&E procurement manager to join its practice in London.

Philippa Thorp Design is an award-winning company that started in 1985.  Today it comprises a talented and growing team of fully trained architects, interior architects and designers with many years’ experience working for private clients on a diverse range of both commercial, hospitality and high-end private/residential projects.

There is a fabulous opportunity to join this highly creative business. The role is for an exceptional designer with at least eight years’ experience, who is confident in the complete design process.

Responsibilities:

  • creating mood boards and concept designs
  • researching and creating presentations for hard finishes, bathroom, kitchen and joinery designs
  • sourcing for samples
  • site visits
  • FF&E design
  • assist with drawing furniture layouts and elevations on Vectorworks using  Philippa Thorp Design templates
  • prepare detailed specification schedules of ironmongery, sanitaryware, electrics, finishes, joinery, etc
  • visiting suppliers, specifying and scheduling
  • liaising with clients, contractors and suppliers – written and verbal
  • work within budgets set by clients
  • work with artisan manufacturers on bespoke pieces of joinery/furniture
  • sign off joinery and freestanding rod drawings
  • compile comprehensive client estimates on FileMaker
  • procurement of orders and signing off invoices
  • sourcing of art and decorative items
  • arrange shipments, collection and deliveries of goods
  • on-site co-ordination and installation
  • managing snagging lists
  • meet with new supplier reps

Applicants must have:

  • experience working from concept design to on-site installation on high-end residential projects within the UK
  • have a good understanding of colours, textures and materials as well as budgets
  • excellent drawing skills
  • Vectorworks experience
  • assist in production of presentations for client review
  • good knowledge of sanitary ware and suppliers
  • good knowledge of FF&E designs and specifications
  • good knowledge of suppliers and experience in sourcing and procuring FF&E
  • organisational skills to manage both suppliers and clients
  • friendly communications skills together with perfect writing skills
  • creativity, passion and diligence with an eye for detail and visual awareness
  • confidence, motivation and a ‘can-do’ attitude and be able to deliver exceptional quality work efficiently under the pressure of deadlines and within budget
  • financial understanding of project costs and budget awareness
  • a degree or equivalent in interior design
  • at least five years’ post graduate experience in the luxury residential sector
  • an eye for detail, colour and a knowledge of antiques and artwork
