Vitruvius & Company is looking for a mid-level interior designer to work directly alongside the firm’s founder in London.
The role is permanent, we will consider both full-time and part-time down to three days per week for the right candidate.
Vitruvius is a London-based interior design, development and project management practice founded by Guy Wengraf in 2012. The business combines an analytic approach to developing and project management, with the lateral creativity to execute detail from the widest, to the most granular level.
We occasionally work with architects for planning, but generally, we design and execute every aspect of the project from initial concept through to FF&E and even works of art. Currently, we are doing four houses in London and one in the country, contract size typically £500k-£1m.
This is a great opportunity for a talented architect/interior designer to gain practical and fairly lateral experience in young and growing firm. The role will involve working closely with the founder to deliver a variety of private residential projects across London and the countryside. We are looking for someone who can work independently, has an excellent eye for detail, impeccable taste, can face clients at times, can manage several projects from concept through to completion, and ideally have some experience onsite with contractors. Above all we need someone who can combine the ability to make accurate technical plans and models in the studio, with the ability to deliver the finished product.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- make detailed 2D construction drawings from measured surveys: proposed floor plans, elevations, sections, door schedules, window schedules, RCP’s, LME plans, room elevations
- ability to make detailed and accurate 3D model in sketch-up and preferably other programs
- detail design development including coordination with consultants, producing drawing packages and the interior specification
- produce detailed specification of finishes
- ability to make accurate and cost effective ordering and delivery for range of 2nd fix components: bathroom hardware, Sanitary ware, radiators, lighting and electrical components, appliances, floor and wall coverings, fabrics, furniture, stone, doors, windows, joinery
- must be able to go to site and check what is being built against plans and be able to adapt and value engineer where necessary.
Skills and experience:
- bachelor’s/master’s degree in interior design, interior architecture or architecture
- proven technical ability and knowledge
- excellent multi-tasking and organisational skills are essential – experience working on several projects at one time
- experience in high-end residential projects in London preferable
- in-depth knowledge of finishes, fittings and fixtures including suppliers, appropriate applications and working within a range of budgets
- experience creating and managing FF&E packages and finishes schedules
- excellent handling of AutoCAD and experience producing drawing packs, Indesign, Photoshop and SketchUp essential
- enthusiastic, motivated, communicative, and with a hands-on approach.
- numerate, able to make accurate calculations
- preferably full UK driving license and willingness to travel when required
Position, salary and benefits, process:
- the successful candidate will be joining the team as a middleweight interior designer on a permanent contract. We will consider both full-time and part-time down to three days per week for the right candidate
