Open call for design experimentation workshop
at Chulalongkorn University

Chulalongkorn University has an open call for academics and professionals in design and architecture to conduct workshops for its Design Experimentation Workshop programme in Bangkok, Thailand.

DEX – call for Design Experimentation Workshop

The Design Experimentation Workshop (DEX) is an annual event of the International Program in Design and Architecture (INDA) at the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. An open call is to invite international guests, academics or professionals in design and architectural fields to conduct a 10-day workshop for our third-year architecture students with a unique topic related to their expertise, interests and achievements.

The nature of DEX is experimentation unbounded by the reality or feasibility of design solutions. DEX’s emphasis, however, is on ‘applied research’ to challenge, explore, and innovatively push the boundary of ideas, concepts, methodological and pedagogical processes beyond convention.

DEX 2020: Crafting Technology by Design

The theme of this year’s DEX is ‘Crafting Technology by Design’ which questions the application of craft in architecture in the age of mass-produced standardized products that are taking over the position of crafted products. Craftsmanship today is challenged with insufficient successors, lack of demand, increased competition and introduction of innovative digital technologies. DEX 2020 will question these issues by asking what is today’s craft, how it could be sustainable, and how it could be integrated with technologies for architecture and design?
