We Make Extraordinary Objects is seeking an industrial/product design intern to join its design studio in Essex, UK.

We Make Extraordinary Objects (WMEO) designs and manages the production of custom, high end furniture and installations. We are now looking to put together a small team of self-motivated, technically minded and determined individuals who will assist with production management, research, prototyping, experimentation and liaising with manufacturers and suppliers. This internship is for a design intern to get involved with all aspects of production management.

By working closely with the directors, the successful applicant can expect to get a very good experience of how to best approach producing high-end three dimensional pieces.

The internship will include a whole range of practical experiences:

  • assisting with design projects
  • building a new workshop area in their new studio
  • help organise workspace
  • 3D cad modelling and 2D technical drawings for elements on current projects
  • researching and contacting manufacturers for specific elements
  • getting together quotations
  • production overview and scheduling
  • visiting workshops for production reviews and meetings
  • transport and installation of completed pieces

The internship is paid (£80 per day + travel costs) and will run for a period of no less than 3 months on a part-time basis (2-3 days a week) with the aim to progress onto a more permanent role.

WMEO is looking for people who are:

They must be fluent in English and have a related qualification in design or engineering or similar. Previous relevant practical experience and 3D CAD visualisation skills are both a huge plus. Full driving licence is a must.
