Arup is seeking a designer to join its digital studio in London.
Designers are a central figure in the digital studio’s process and take a considerable share of responsibility for the success of our work.
An ideal candidate will take part in the following activities:
- work with colleagues to brainstorm new strategies and solutions
- independently create compelling drawings for new concepts for buildings, cities, products, digital interventions. These could be technical drawings and plans, but also renderings, perspective line drawings, illustrations or hand drawings to help communicate the idea to a non-technical audience
- support with creating mock-ups and prototypes of spatial interventions (for example public furniture or digital totems) and user testing these.
- support with creating mock-ups and prototypes for digital deliverables, such as proof of concept documents, storyboards, wireframes, user flow diagrams and visual renderings etc
- support with designing workshop artefacts and facilitating workshops for clients, collaborators, and communities.
- support with conducting research (including user interviews, spatial observations) to generate an understanding of spatial challenges and deliver new concepts for interventions
- Presentation prep – throughout the process, designers must prepare various reports, artefacts, and workshop tools for clients and stakeholders
Requirements and skills:
- advanced – Adobe Creative Cloud, skilled user of Illustrator, Photoshop, Figman and InDesign
- advanced – Skilled user 3D design program, ideally SketchUp, Mayo, Rhino and related rendering
- experience with video editing / postproduction such as After Effects and Premiere
- experience with basic front-end development languages
- degree in design, which may include architecture, product design or graphic design
- typically, at least two years’ professional experience
