Jason Bruges is the creative director of Jason Bruges Studio, which he founded in April 2002. He leads a pioneering team of architects, artists, designers, engineers, programmers and computational designers. The design studio and in-house workshop is based in London Fields, East London. The Studio’s work brings environmental awareness and technical skill to the direction of all its creative projects.

Job description

Jason Bruges Studio is looking for a talented, propositional and solution focused designer/project lead to work across a variety of exciting commissions. You’ll uphold the high standards within the studio and work as a specialist team member on a large scope of global design projects. Reporting to the design director and creative director, the role involves a huge amount of researching, experimentation, prototyping and basic electronics, as no project is the same. A sense of resilience and humour are a must as we approach everything we do with exploration and excitement, and we need someone who will be an extension of this.

The role:

  • liaise with clients to determine briefs, narratives, technical specification, budgets and location
  • undertake research to determine requirements to help form design narratives and concepts
  • prepare sketches, reference material, designs, prototypes and production methods to present to management and the client
  • effectively communicate design rationale and iterations
  • liaise with suppliers and third parties as required by the demands of the projects
  • help manage timelines and budgets for design stages of work
  • carry out testing and prototyping, to uphold the quality standards within the studio
  • produce CAD sketches/drawings
  • assist with the delivery of installations to site if required
  • some foreign travel will be expected

Skills and experience required:

  • Part 2 architect, 3D Designer (or equivalent) with some project management experience
  • experience in delivering multiple projects simultaneously on time and on budget
  • history of impeccable client liaison and internal management skills
  • exceptional design skills and the ability to present and communicate ideas clearly
  • able to negotiate with and confidently manage a variety of suppliers
  • confident in switching between multiple tasks at any one time
  • experience and proven track record of working in a multi-disciplinary design studio
  • ability to develop concepts and find the best way of producing them
  • experience of working with interactive environments
  • good understanding of materials and manufacturing process
  • ability to read and interpret architectural plans and specifications would be beneficial
  • experience of design projects that have progressed from concept design through to production
  • knowledge of Rhino, Cinema4D and Adobe Creative Suite such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier, Media Encoder as well as Microsoft Office software – Word, Excel and Keynote
