Business development and marketing manager

SO–IL is seeking a business development and marketing manager to join its team in New York.

SO-IL is an internationally recognized architecture and design firm based in New York. Founded by Jing Liu and Florian Idenburg in 2008, we create spaces and objects for future culture. Rigorously optimistic, our team speaks more than a dozen languages. Our clients are spread across France and South Korea to the United States and Australia.

Business development and marketing manager

We are seeking an applicant with a strong interest in our mission and projects and a desire to gain exposure to relevant professional experience. Working with the partners, the manager will be responsible for actively developing, acquiring, and assessing potential projects, conducting market research, and following up on market opportunities worldwide.

In this position, you will assist with requests for qualification/proposal, requests for information, and client proposals. You will assist in maintaining a clear overview of a continuous flow of business-related inquiries and in an initial assessment of potential new projects. You will also assist in market research, prepare regular status updates, develop marketing material and provide active support in the office’s business development efforts. You will report to the director BD and PR, and ultimately, to the partners.

Responsibilities:

  • focus your efforts on development opportunities for SO–IL
  • generate new business and develop the network – with a focus on cultural and institutional work
  • develop proposals, presentations, and strategy for new opportunities to further SO-IL’s success
  • analyze markets and sectors to develop a clear SO–IL brand identity
  • identify and develop SO – IL brand assets, media coverage, content, social media, etc.
  • act as lead point-person internally to design and submit RFPS/RFQs
  • manage marketing budgets and forecasting process with the support of the studio manager
  • develop and implement campaigns, press outreach, profile coverage to communicate SO–IL brand
  • facilitate media requests, lectures, and networking events
  • ensure content development, production and distribution of all marketing and publicity materials
  • manage SO–IL website
  • maintain contact database CMS
  • designing and implementing office programs to promote a culture that reflects the organization’s values
  • ensure the office is maintained in a clean and orderly fashion in anticipation of any client or media tours
  • other tasks as assigned

Prerequisites:

  • MA/BA Degree in architecture or a master’s degree in a subject related to architecture, real estate, urban planning, landscape architecture or candidates with an legal or business background who love architecture
  • fluency in English; bilingual proficiency in another language is preferred (Dutch, Mandarin, French, Korean)
  • minimum of 1 year professional experience in acquisition/market research required, preferably in the architecture, real estate or development field
  • experience in responding to RFI, RFP, PQQ and direct assignment proposals
  • experience/capability with the management of multiple assignments/deadlines
  • interest in and affinity with market research
  • self-discipline, pro-active and confident in a complex environment
  • excellent communication, organizational, negotiation and pitching skills
  • skilled in Google Docs and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop)
  • familiarity with basic graphic design and web design
  • demonstrated knowledge of social media management
  • knowledge of CMS systems preferred

  • collaborative and comfortable working with a wide range of project partners, stakeholders, and audiences
  • flexible, organized, keen eye for detail, and able to multitask
