Layer is seeking a lead industrial designer to to join its growing London studio.
Layer, an experience driven design agency, is seeking a lead industrial designer with eight plus years’ industry experience to join the leadership team of their growing London studio.
Layer delivers experience-driven design for both the physical and digital worlds in partnership with forward-thinking brands including Bang and Olufsen, Nike, Samsung, Braun, BMW and Vitra, as well as many startups.
We create products that will help define the way we live, work and communicate in the future, from smart wearables and furniture systems, to the next generation of media and communication devices.
Our experience-driven approach to projects requires a diverse range of skills and the selected applicant will have keen knowledge and experience across strategic design direction and be well versed in a full set of industrial design skills. The successful applicant will be proactive with a positive attitude to become an integral team leader at Layer.
Duties and responsibilities:
- a creative leader, always on the pulse of what is happening and sharing inspiring and thoughtful references to provide strategic direction to the design team
- strategic direction across a wide range of sectors; gathering feedback from product testing; brand immersion and interpretation; forecasting market trends; competitor benchmarking; and observation of consumer behaviours to define relevant and inspiring insights that drive projects forward
- insightful storytelling with the ability to construct inspiring narratives to present to clients, outlining user experience, uniqueness and tying insights to final designs
- ability to own projects and client relationships including great visual and verbal presentation skills
- compelling concept generation with good sketching and communication abilities
- comprehensive design development skills through the use of 3D modelling and photo realistic 3D rendering
- great knowledge of design for prototyping and production. You will oversee how products are made with working knowledge of production processes and materials
- the candidate should be good at time management and be prepared to join an exciting and dynamic environment.
- contribute to a culture of collaboration, share skills across teams, and work well as part of a diverse team.
Due to the hands-on nature of our work, this is an in-studio role and we are not looking at remote working at this time.
Fluency in English is a prerequisite – other languages are beneficial.
