Engineering and architectural design lecturer
at University College London

University College London is hiring an engineering and architectural design lecturer to join its team in London.

The Bartlett School of Architecture is a world-leading place to study, teach and research architecture. The School is a key part of UCL, a top world-ranking university, where architecture has been taught for over 175 years. With over 300 permanent staff, across two state-of-the-art London sites, the school enjoys a rich reputation for cultivating innovative ideas in architecture and is currently ranked global number two by the QS World Ranking by Subject for architecture and the built environment and the top architecture school by the Architects’ Journal AJ100 for the 17th consecutive year.

The post primarily sits in MEng Engineering and Architectural Design, a cross-disciplinary and interdepartmental research based undergraduate programme at the Bartlett School of Architecture and run conjointly with the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (CEGE), and The Bartlett’s Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering (IEDE).

Research:

Collaborate with the Director/Deputy Director of School,

Director of Research and MEng Engineering and Architectural Design (EAD)

Programme Director to undertake research and related activities within EAD (program webpage here).

Teaching:

Collaborate with the director/deputy director of school and MEng EAD programme director to develop design teaching in the field of EAD. This will involve working closely with an interdisciplinary team from CEGE and IEDE. Alongside this the post holder will be expected to harness the School’s reputation for continuous development and critical thinking in design teaching and research, offering support to new initiatives, ways of thinking and future strategies.

This open-ended post will be available for an immediate start, in preparation for the 2021-22 academic year.

Key requirements

Successful candidates will possess an international and excellent interdisciplinary track record and technical knowledge in the field of engineering and architectural design. In addition, we are seeking demonstrable knowledge of the climate emergency as a critical lens for this area.

Experience of high-quality research in a relevant subject outlined in the job description is essential with a focus on finding solutions to the climate emergency via engineering and architectural design. Additionally, the successful post holder will have significant experience of teaching programme design and management of modules in higher education including: preparation of course guides, lecture and seminars, setting of assessments and development of interdisciplinary teaching material.
