About us

East JR is a design, build and bespoke joinery studio based in East London.

We bring concept design, technical development, construction and joinery together under one roof. Our in-house team and workshop allow us to develop ambitious schemes with a clear understanding of cost, buildability and delivery from the outset.

The company has grown significantly over the past three years, with an increasing portfolio of hospitality, commercial and residential projects. We are now looking for an exceptional Interior Design Lead to build and lead the design side of the business.

The role

This is one of the most senior roles within East JR.

You will take ownership of the creative direction, performance and long-term development of our interior design studio. The opportunity is similar to being the founder for your own design practice.

You’ll be supported by the existing operational infrastructure of an established company including project pipeline, marketing, finance, joinery workshop, construction team, architects, technical team and comprehensive supplier network.

We are looking for someone entrepreneurial, creatively ambitious and excited by the opportunity to shape and run an already growing interior design studio.

Key responsibilities:

• set and maintain the creative direction and design standards of East JR
• recruit and structure the future design team
• lead interior design pitches and concepts
• oversee end-to-end project delivery
• manage, mentor and develop expertise in the interiors team
• run design reviews and handovers to technical teams
• work closely with technical designers, project managers, construction teams and our in-house workshop
• lead client presentations, workshops and key design conversations
• oversee design programmes, fees, resources and project priorities
• actively seek out and develop new business opportunities
• significantly contribute to the wider strategic direction of the company

You must have:

• significant experience leading high-quality interior design projects
• high EQ for managing both client and team
• strong portfolio, ideally including hospitality, commercial and/or retail
• an uncompromising commitment to quality
• experience managing a design team
• excellent creative judgement and a strong understanding of materials, furniture, lighting and spatial design
• confidence in leading critical client relationships
• experience managing design fees, resources, scope and programmes
• the ability to balance creative ambition with cost, buildability and delivery
• a clear, collaborative and decisive leadership style
• the ambition to build a design studio and shape its long-term identity

Experience establishing or growing a design team, department or independent studio would be particularly valuable.
