Project conservation architect

Caroe Architecture is looking for a project conservation architect to join its practice in London.
Caroe Architecture, based in London and Cambridge, is dedicated both to the care and conservation of historical places and to the creation of innovative new buildings and enhancements. Our expertise ranges from ecclesiastical settings to complex urban, educational and cultural environments. We currently have live project work involving both new design and conservation for Cambridge University Colleges, York Minster, St Paul’s Cathedral and a wide variety of other interesting Grade I and II* listed buildings, including industrial heritage such as the Taylor’s Bellfoundry site in Loughborough.
We are looking for an architect with enthusiasm and experience of working with historic buildings to work with the team in our London office at St Paul’s Cathedral. We can offer a dynamic and varied workload on some of the country’s best historic buildings.
You will be a qualified architect with three to eight years’ UK technical and project experience post-Part 3 qualification. Previous work on historic buildings is desirable. Conservation accreditation from either the AABC or RIBA schemes an advantage.
Summary of role requirements:
- qualified architect registered with the ARB with a minimum of three years of relevant UK project-running experience post-Part 3 qualification
- overall to have robust technical skills, to be able to take projects through all RIBA project stages as the job-runner with a sensitivity towards and delight in historic buildings, and with a proven enthusiasm for high quality design and construction
- an excellent command of English, both written and spoken
- a demonstrable experience of and interest in historic buildings is desirable; and an advantage if coupled with AABC or RIBA conservation accreditation
- AutoCAD proficiency
- good presentation skills (Photoshop and InDesign) desirable
- good modelling skills (SketchUp and/or other 3D-modelling packages) desirable
- proven knowledge of UK building industry and Building Regulations
- good organisational and communication skills
