Jason Bruges is an artist, designer, and creative director of Jason Bruges Studio. He leads a pioneering team of architects, design engineers, electronic engineers, mechanical engineers, creative technologists, visualisers, coders and production managers to design and build bespoke interactive art installations worldwide.

Jason Bruges Studio is a dynamic, multidisciplinary art and design practice based in London Fields in east London. Established in 2002, the studio is internationally renowned as a pioneer of the hybrid space between art, architecture, and technology. Exploring the interrelationships between people, data, nature and technology, the team creates high-tech, site-specific artworks and dynamic, spatial experiences.  Intervening in the urban environment, they produce moments of theatre that connect people with their environments and weave a sense of magic into the fabric of a place.

Job overview

You’ll maintain an overview and a keen eye on the resourcing for each project – knowing who is on each team, what time is planned vs how much is left, what are they working on, what they need, when the deadlines are and what the deliverables are. You will need to ensure there are suitable and functional levels of resource on each project, and feed information back to the management team on a regular basis so that projects can be lean and efficient to ensure excellent and innovative projects are delivered on time and on budget. We approach everything we do with exploration and excitement – we need our studio manager to help keep us realistic, whilst maintaining this enthusiasm.

Key responsibilities:

  • resource management – working with the management team to allocate and carefully monitor the amount of staff time we spend on each stage of a project to ensure it is managed efficiently. Lead regular team meetings and check in with people to ensure resourcing is correct, projects are on track and work is produced to deadlines
  • work with the team to ensure meetings are scheduled at the right time to review work efficiently and provide clear status reports
  • work with the management and finance team to ensure that our billing schedule is aligned with our deadlines
  • HR management to include holidays, recruitment process, employment contracts, on boarding, staff reviews, freelance team management and any other related HR issues
  • team management – help ensure the health and wellbeing of the team
  • being the first point of contact for any concerns they might have
  • help make sure the studio team of 30+ is engaged, motivated, and inspired
  • help us maintain a studio that is rewarding and fun to work for and ensure the team is in the best position to deliver against the creative vision of the business
  • new business – work closely with the NB team to prepare for upcoming resourcing needs
  • operations, systems and procedures – ensuring the studio operationally and administratively works efficiently. The studio manager is ultimately the driving force behind creating a comfortable and tidy working environment

Required experience:

  • significant practice management experience: having strong experience in project time management and allocation within a creative environment.
  • excellent line management experience with time and performance management skills
  • sound operational expertise: with demonstrable experience in using and developing procedures for time recording, management and analysis
  • HR – basic understanding of employment law and HR practice including, acquisition, optimisation, and retention of talent

Required skills:

  • excellent time management, organisational, reporting and team management skills
  • energetic self-starter that enjoys getting stuck in and finding solutions
  • curious and approachable, with great interpersonal and communication skills
  • proven experience with project/resourcing management software such as Teamgantt, Harvest/Forecast.  Fully proficient in usual office software such as MS Office, Word, Excel, Mail etc.
