Pipeline technical director

Squint/Opera has an opportunity for a pipeline technical director to join its London practice.

At Squint Opera the Pipeline technical director is responsible for developing and maintaining the production pipeline, liaising between different departments and providing solutions to technical problems.

The right candidate will be able to increase the overall efficiency of the studio, and contribute to improving the quality of work being done.

This role will see you predominantly partner between various divisions inside of the business, including our architectural visualisation, VFX, interactive and TV production pipelines. This is an en exicting opportunity for the right person to work in a progressive and forward thinking team on how to merge pipelines and provide tools to all our team in a seamless fashion. You will be responsible for really driving innovation across our teams and taking ownership on how best to do this.

Key tasks:

– maintain current production pipeline maintain various systems, primarily supporting the 3D Max pipeline using maxscript
– analyse current workflows and provide plans on how they can be improved
– develop new tools to further increase productivity across the board
– assist with planning difficult or unusual production shots
– supporting the artists with technical issues
– assist with production work if required
– troubleshoot technical problems as they arise
– analyse and design improved workflows
– ensure company standards are being met
– develop new tools to support artists
– keep up to date with industry trends

Key skilled required:

– scripting ability to a professional level
– knowledge of Python, V-Ray, MAXScript, web API – ftrack, shotgun Deadline, Maya, JavaScript, mySQL,
– ability to analyse systems and design new systems
– high degree of problem-solving skill required, and the ability to rapidly learn new software/tech
– passion for improving studio output through enabling others
– excellent communication, and willingness to be a technical ‘go-to’ person
– basic understanding of content creation, 3D generalist skills in modelling, texturing, animation, etc.
– working knowledge of git or similar version control system.

Bonus skills:

– previous experience creating renders with Vray
– previous experience wrangling and scripting for deadline
– university or equivalent qualification in computer science
– Shotgun/Ftrack development
