Sawyer Berson is hiring an interior design assistant to join its team in New York.
Sawyer Berson Architecture & Landscape Architecture, an AD100, New York-based design firm seeks a highly motivated and skilled interior design assistant for high-end residential projects
Please note this role is a 100% in-person, five days a week.
Duties:
- work closely with designers, architects and contractors
- procurement of furnishing, fixtures, fabric, wall-coverings and equipment.
- researching and interviewing new suppliers and manufacturers
- heavy phone calls to follow up on orders, shipping, delivery dates, etc.
- preparing purchase orders and entry into Studio software
- matching invoices with purchase orders and delivery tickets
- assist with preparation for client meetings and vendor meetings, etc.
- assist with maintaining client, subcontractor, supplier and vendor files
- plan, schedule, and forecast procurement activities
- purchase general and specialized materials as directed by designers, and subcontractor services for construction projects
- review plans, specifications, and contracts to ensure the correct materials and subcontractor services are ordered and/or purchased
- maintain project files for multiple projects
- invite estimates, consult with suppliers, and review quotations with the design team
- determine or negotiate contract terms and conditions, award supplier contracts, or recommend contract awards as directed
- must be able to multi-task and work well under pressure
- must be able to relate and coordinate with the finance department project funding needs on a weekly basis
- must know how to create reports in MS Excel and understand the schedule of values and budgets
Education and skills:
- BA or BS degree
- must have purchasing background
- ability to learn or have experience working with studio software
- must have at least two to three years’ experience in general office duties
- must have computer literacy, including strong experience in MSWord, MS Excel
- ability to work under deadline situations and respond to changes in priorities
- good written and verbal communication skills
- strong organizational skills are a must, the ability to work independently with strong multi-tasking abilities
- knowledge of the project structure in a client/consultant business environment
- interior design knowledge is a plus
- must be authorized to work in the US
