Allies and Morrison is hiring a sustainability coordinator to join its team in London.
Allies and Morrison is an award winning architectural design and urban planning practice based in its own purpose-built studios in Bankside, London. Our current projects include masterplans, new homes, cultural, education, health, retail, hotel and office buildings for institutional, public and private clients in the UK and abroad.
Role and responsibilities
A new opportunity has arisen for a sustainability coordinator to take a central role in our growing sustainability group.
Our sustainability group works to achieve the objectives outlined within the practice sustainability strategy. This covers a commitment to designing net zero carbon projects, becoming a carbon neutral organisation, and facilitating a ‘design for performance’ culture.
The primary focus of the position is to work with our design teams, consultants, and clients with guidance and targeted performance analysis to raise sustainability aspirations. There will also be opportunities to contribute to targeted research which will be linked to your skill set and interests. You will directly influence the performance of our projects and make a genuine contribution to our commitment to both Architects Declare and the RIBA 2030 Challenge. You will experience a diverse range of practical training and professional collaboration that will equip and empower you to influence the sustainability of our future project work and enrich your own career.
Responsibilities:
- work alongside our architectural teams to develop sustainable, low carbon and regenerative architectural strategies
- support the practice in fulfilling our RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge commitments
- carry out sustainable design reviews at key project stages
- undertake, maintain and promote the use of environmental analysis (including energy, embodied carbon, daylight and thermal comfort) across the practice
- assist with carrying out Post Occupancy Evaluation for projects post-completion
- provide sustainability certification advice where applicable
- assist with our CPD programme in line with RIBA curriculum
- assist in activities to maintain ISO 14001 Environmental Management and ISO 50001 Energy Management certification.
Skills required:
- post graduate degree in environmental design, architectural engineering or equivalent
- architectural training preferred but not essential
- demonstrable experience in applying sustainable design in an architectural or engineering practice
- solid understanding of UK building regulations Part L
- comprehensive knowledge of leading sustainability initiatives, including (but not limited to) RIBA 2030 Challenge, LETI and Passivhaus
- an approachable attitude with an enthusiasm to connect with internal and external teams
- confident in communicating environmental strategies in a variety of formats
- a commitment to continuous development and sharing of knowledge
- excellent organisation, problem solving and time management skills
