at Possible
Possible is seeking an architectural visualiser to join its team in London.
The basics:
- day rate – £230 per day
- contract – freelance, three days per week for a minimum of 12 months
- location – our physical office is in London but you can work from
anywhere in the UK. There may be occasional travel required to
Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds and London - ideal starting date – February 2022

Are you a skilled urban design or architectural visualiser with a strong portfolio of high quality artwork? Worried about climate change, and all the other negative impacts on society of a car-dominated transport system? Want to do something about it?
As our new architectural visualiser, you will work closely with Possible’s director of innovation and creative lead, as well as the rest of the Car Free Cities team, to produce beautiful and inspiring streetscape design images to support our projects and campaigns to make car dependency a thing of the past in the UK’s cities. You will play a key role in breathing life into a wide range of different car-free interventions, helping the public and policymakers to build up a clear, compelling picture of life in a world where our cities have transcended traffic blight and the pollution and danger that comes with it.

As our new architectural visualiser, you will work closely with Possible’s director of innovation and creative lead, as well as the rest of the Car Free Cities team, to produce beautiful and inspiring streetscape design images to support our projects and campaigns to make car dependency a thing of the past in theUK’s cities. You will play a key role in breathing life into a wide range of different car-free interventions, helping the public and policymakers to build up a clear, compelling picture of life in a world where our cities have transcended traffic blight and the pollution and danger that comes with it.
Your mission will include developing alternative visions of Hammersmith Bridge as a walking and cycling heritage mecca; working with schools to re-imagine obsolete petrol stations; working with community groups to co-design and illustrate proposals for new green modal filters and community parklets to replace parking spaces; depicting new cycling and walking crossings for the Thames and new mass transit options for Leeds, Birmingham and Bristol; and picturing some of the most iconic street scenes in Paris, London and New York after they have been completely de-motorized. Across all these and more you will be tasked with transforming dry written transport decarbonisation policy proposals into compelling, attractive views across the horizon of the zero-carbon, near-future of our city streets.
For years, we were a London-based organisation, but as a national charity
which works across the UK we’re proud to have team members based in cities across the country and in rural areas too. We have a lovely office in Camden and covid-permitting, you’d be very welcome to join us to work from there. But if you want to be based somewhere else, we can connect online, as long as you don’t mind the odd trip to the big smoke (or an away-weekend tree planting in the countryside). From time to time we may also need you to make physical visits to one or more of our other cities – Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham and Paris. We have partners in New York too but our no-fly policy makes that a bit harder!
Working with others in the Possible team, you’ll take a proactive approach to increasing and diversifying our audiences, find new ways to talk about climate change with new people. You’ll also be invited to contribute to general marketing, media, outreach, fundraising and campaign strategy. And everyone at Possible chips in to make the tea, take out the bins and do the washing up (or the virtual office equivalents), so there’s that too.
As a freelancer you are free to choose your own working days and hours to
fulfil the contracted days each month, and invoices will be paid on a monthly basis.
Key responsibilities
Design:
- work closely with the director of innovation, creative lead, transport
planner and the rest of Possible’s car free cities team to turn concept
sketches, design ideas and technical drawings into public facing
artworks which bring the ideas to life visually, helping audiences to
imagine what the proposed changes could look like in practice - co-develop design concepts via direct liaison with partner communities
and volunteers in workshops and similar as required. - proactively contribute your own ideas for impactful creative design
collateral for the Car Free Cities campaign - opportunity to pitch for ad hoc additional work on other Possible
projects and campaigns where appropriate
Communications and profile:
- work with the communications team to ensure our CFC campaigns reach as many people as possible, and grow the Possible audience in tandem with the project partners, in line with our strategic communications priorities
- work with the communications team and the project partners to
develop plans for presenting and promoting your own design content
and other content generated as part of our campaigns as necessary - contribute to opportunity spotting for increasing campaign impact and
reach
Organisational involvement:
- our long term freelance contractors are expected to play an active role in the life of the organisation and help keep Possible a supportive and inspiring place to work
- attend regular online meetings with the Car Free Cities campaigns team, the communications team and the wider Possible team, as well as monthly contract management 121 meetings
- participate actively in maintaining a positive, supportive organisational culture at Possible
- some travel to the other cities in which we are working may be required from time to time, pandemic permitting
About you
To make our shortlist, you’ll need:
- strong portfolio of architectural, town planning or street design
visualisations - track record of delivering creative briefs on time and budget
- ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as part of a team
- familiarity with a range of design software, and flexibility to allow for
streamlined workflow with Possible comms colleagues - commitment to Possible’s positive approach to climate campaigning
and passionate about achieving climate justice

We will hold two rounds of interviews. Each interview will happen online with two Possible staff and last between 60-90 minutes, including presenting and reviewing a short task which you will be asked to complete in advance. For candidates invited to second round interviews there will also be an opportunity to speak informally with two Possible staff members not involved in the appointment process to ask any questions about our workplace, and get a feel for our organisational culture.
