Drafting assistant
at Frieze
Frieze is hiring a drafting assistant to join its team in London.
This role reports to the head of exhibitor production, and the successful candidate will be responsible for providing drafting assistance and other production support across all Frieze Art Fairs, with a primary focus on the US events.
Key accountabilities:
- provide CAD assistance (using Vectorworks) to help maintain exhibitor stand plans and technical drawings to produce high quality stands
- support with quoting for gallery-related build
- assist with the scheduling of labour and materials for projects, as well as inventory tracking
- assist with the shipping communications and scheduling
- support with the collation of vendor documentation required for the fairs
- review and address health and safety requirements to ensure stand build meets legal and industry standards
- establish strong and effective relationships with internal teams, exhibitors and contractors
- provide regular communication and updates to the exhibitor services department in relation to gallery stand build
- assist with the coordination of contractors working on exhibitor-related build
- conduct quality control checks, in conjunction with existing teams
- assist with post-project reviews and create recommendation supports, along with project manager and senior production manager
- department finance assistance, including invoice processing and credit card reconciliation
Qualifications
Mandatory:
- experience using Vectorworks (or similar CAD program)
- experience producing technical drawings, build plans and accompanying quotes
- an ability to read 2D build plans and see these through to physical build
- proficient in Microsoft Office, in particular Excel
- excellent attention to detail
- strong written, oral and mathematical skills
- strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate effectively at every level
- must be a natural mathematical and logical thinker
- ability to efficiently prioritise tasks in a high-pressure environment
Desirable:
- experience in gallery/client relationships
- experience working in exhibition production and large-scale events
- experience working in the US and Asia
- health and safety qualification – in UK and/or US
- an interest in the art world
Working conditions
- this is a permanent position
- this role will be based at Surrey Street
- working hours are 10am – 6pm Monday to Friday
- occasional travel and weekend work may be required
- overseas travel will be required – candidate must be able to stay in the USA for a minimum of two weeks at a time, twice a year
- extended/unsociable hours will be required when meeting project deadlines and when on site
