Project architect
at Loader Monteith Architects
Loader Monteith Architects is hiring a design architect to join its team in Glasgow, Scotland.
We are looking for an architect with two to three years’ post-Part 3 qualification experience. It would be beneficial if you have experienced work in both domestic and non-domestic sectors, and at a larger scale.
You should either have qualification in, or aspirations to become qualified in Passivhaus and/or Enerphit (the office would support this).

You should ideally have seen a project from inception to completion and have experience of working with contractors on site including the contract administration role, and reporting to clients.
Your core skills include CAD drawing at a technical design phase (we run AutoCAD), conceptual model making and text writing, convincing presentation skills (we run Adobe CS including Photoshop, Illustrator and inDesign).
Key tasks:
- developing the essential project idea and strong architectural concepts in response to the site, brief and wider context.
- convincing presentation and communication of designs and concepts.
- preparation of submission and presentation documents: drawings, reports, screen presentations, working models
- strong technical understanding and facility in taking RIBA Stage 3 information and developing it through the technical and construction phases
- coordination of design team member’s information
- reporting to clients on progress
- presentation of designs both internally and externally
Required skills, knowledge and expertise:
- holistic understanding of architecture beyond the concept phase
- two to three years’ of experience
- clear commitment to producing beautiful architecture
- clear competence and fluency in technical design stage (RIBA stage 4)
- some experience of construction stage (RIBA S5)
- ability and willingness to perform all design tasks (modelmaking, CAD drawing 3D and 2D, visualisations and graphic layout)
- software skills in AutoCAD, SketchUp, V-Ray, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, MS Office
- competent written and spoken languages skills in English
- a high degree of motivation, energy and resilience
- a team spirit, an ability to take on other people’s ideas or opinions in a constructive manner
- structured, analytical thinking, ability to prioritise, goal orientation, self-initiative, flexibility
