Glenn Howells Architects is hiring a modelmaker to join its team in Birmingham, UK.

We’re looking for a talented modelmaker with at least three years of industry experience to join our busy and expanding team in our Birmingham studio.

The post of modelmaker is vital to the success of the modelshop in assisting with making larger models, and with the potential to run smaller self-contained ones. Using your knowledge of CAD, you will be able interpret architectural drawings, decipher the relevant information required to make a model, and re-draw information and layout for the laser cutter/3D printers, of which you will have working knowledge. You will make models to the same process/design and aesthetic tailored by GHA, as per directed by the head of modelshop.

Working on high-profile UK and international projects and using the latest 3D printing and traditional machining techniques, the right candidate will help deliver innovative, exciting and varied models from in-house sketch design development models to high-quality presentation models and prototypes.

The successful candidate will be educated to HND or degree level, have a good knowledge of CAD programs like Rhino 3D, AutoCAD, SketchUp and the enthusiasm to learn Rhino exclusively.

In addition, we’re searching for someone with the following qualities:

  • enthusiasm to learn Materialise Magics file fixing program, and fix files as instructed by senior modelmaker/head of modelshop
  • a good knowledge in the safe use and maintenance of hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery
  • good eye for detail and to demonstrate a high level of accuracy and ability of scale model making skills
  • assist with making larger models as instructed by senior modelmakers/head of modelshop
  • ability to run small sized models/projects independently as instructed by head of modelshop
  • the ability to manage your time and deliver projects within tight deadlines
  • use of your knowledge in spray painting, and the use of a spray gun, with the capacity to spray models to a good finish
  • assisting with the delivery and receipt of models which have gone off-site, evolving model display and model storage/curating
  • assist with unloading and promptly storing deliveries of materials to the workshop

Remuneration package is negotiable depending on previous experience.
