The opportunity
We’re recruiting a supremely talented mid-weight industrial designer with at least five years’ industry experience and a passion for user-focussed product innovation.
The successful candidate will be an influential part of our small design team, given the freedom to liaise directly with clients, formulate creative solutions to briefs, collaborate and learn from the team to develop chosen designs right the way through to manufacture.
Your design experience will have exposed you to a range of materials and production techniques, and you will be an expert in plastic injection moulding. Moreover, you will be sensitive to the commercial and environmental appropriateness of the materials and methods used.
As an instrumental part of the team, you’ll be motivated to work at pace, and on a variety of different projects which may be at different stages of development.
You’ll be comfortable working as part of a team, or working autonomously, and reporting to the directors.
Fundamentally, you’ll be a positive, creative individual who is a problem solver with excellent communication skills. You’ll understand the value of strategic product innovation, and how to communicate that to the consumer through intelligent design.
Key skills:
- user research (online and in-person)
- innovative idea generation, both individually and as a team
- proficient at sketching and visually communicating ideas
- able to verbally communicate ideas and present to a team
- understanding the principles of ‘good design’
- able to take direction and learn
- awillingness to learn new software
- proficient in Adobe Photoshop and illustrator
- excellent Solidworks ability
- good ability in rendering package (Keyshot/SW Visualise)
- a good knowledge of additive manufacturing and other prototyping methods
- excellent knowledge of production techniques and materials
- excellent knowledge of ‘design for manufacture’
- be a team player in all tasks, even those not listed above
- have at least five years’ industry experience
- have an appropriate degree-level qualification
- 35+ hours per week, semi-flexible work days and location
Salary – completive salary, based on experience (£28,000 – £34,000)
