House of Grey is seeking a full time freelance mid-weight/senior designer to join its growing studio in London.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a circular salutogenic design studio at a critical point in its evolution.

We are seeking a like-minded interior designer to work under the creative supervision of House of Grey director, Louisa Grey and our principal Senior Interior Designer.

The role of the mid-weight/senior designer will be too nurture and evolve our residential and commercial interior design projects with a sensitive understanding of the House of Grey aesthetic.

The candidate must have at least five years’ experience in a mid-weight/senior designer interior designer role.

Currently this is a full-time freelance position with the potential to develop into a permanent role for the right candidate.

Where you’ll work

You will work predominantly in our new holistic work/life studio space in North London alongside our Founder, and studio team members. We value each individual studio member, have an active listening policy and offer flexible working.

Responsibilities of the mid-weight/senior designer at House of Grey:

  • prepare design development presentations and documentation
    procurement, invoicing and budgeting projects
  • creating technical drawings for interior architectural elements using AutoCAD
  • researching and sourcing FF&E (furniture, fixtures and equipment)
  • run projects and lead a small design team, from the initial stages until completion, including attending client presentations and site meetings
  • project installation
  • designing bespoke solutions including furniture and products within client interiors

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes and capabilities:

  • experienced and dynamic interior designer
  • interested in innovating through sustainable interior design and conscious choices, with a clear understanding of the House of Grey studio aesthetics
  • proficient organisational skills to drive the high-end interior design business forward whilst being able to collaborate and work as part of a growing team
  • lateral thinker who is able to come up with creative solutions when working on projects
  • proactive in sourcing innovative suppliers and building our sustainable materials library
  • detail orientated in both day-today tasks and interior design work
  • strong technical drawing skills, proficient in AutoCAD*
  • experienced in creating and managing project budgets
  • experienced in working both independently and within a team to develop a concept from its initial stages, throughout the project to final delivery
  • experience working on all stages of a luxury project from concept through to completion
  • project management experience, working on site with sub-contractors, overseeing and aiding the implementation of the design, dealing with any questions that may arise
  • experience working on projects within the high-end, luxury market in residential and commercial interiors

Personal skills:

  • well presented, professional, calm with the confidence to delegate kindly to others under pressure and confident in being client-facing
  • an eye for detail is a must
  • excellent time-management, with the ability to follow-up with clients and suppliers in a timely manner
  • excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • professional phone manner and email drafting skills
  • independent attitude
  • personal integrity, with genuine passion for our philosophy and design aesthetic at House of Grey

Qualifications and expertise:

  • degree or equivalent in interior design
  • proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Softwares (InDesign/Photoshop/Illustrator) and SketchUp
  • experienced in producing technical drawing packages to include RCP and M+E plans, tender and joinery packages
  • strong hand-drawing skills
  • strong skills in designing bespoke furniture and product design
  • strong concept skills
  • wellbeing certified and/or a well accredited professional would be ideal but not essential
