HemingwayDesign is hiring an urban designer to join its team in London.
HemingwayDesign are seeking a creative urban designer at any level on a full-time permanent basis to join our London based multi-disciplinary team to work on a range of visioning, masterplan, strategy and placemaking projects.
We are a talented and motivated team of graphic designers, urban planners, interior designers, writers, art directors, event producers, curators, architects, ideas people and strategic thinkers. Our work takes us across culture-led regeneration, urban design, interior architecture, community-focused placemaking, large scale multi-arts festivals, exhibition design, graphic and brand identity amongst other things. But our real speciality is with people, places and positive societal impact.
Main responsibilities:
- carry out urban research and record site observations to support masterplans and area strategies
- develop visions and strategies that are accompanied by strong rationale and/or evidence bases
- present and communicate urban design, urban research and placemaking strategy ideas to clients and collaborators
- thought leadership – researching and identify best practices, considering appropriate and site-specific strategies and plans
- produce diagrams and visual tools to help communicate a vision and translate it into a site-specific recommendation
- oversee the approach to public engagement on projects including occasional workshops and consultation sessions.
- working alongside our events team to consider and devise appropriate public and participative activation of spaces
Skills and requirements:
- degree in urban design or architecture
- some proven experience in developing urban designs in conjunction with architecture and landscape projects
- confident to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
- experience of working directly with clients and other consultants
- ability to sketch/develop designs on paper as well as digitally
- professional-level design software proficiency (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- good communication and presentation skills in English – verbal, written and visual
Beneficial though not essential:
- 3D CAD skills
Salary and benefits:
- salary dependent on experience and skills
- four weeks paid holiday plus all public holidays
- the business operates a four and a half day week during the summer months of July and August
- two full time studio dogs
