Jan Hendzel Studio is seeking a studio manager to join its team in London.
Jan Hendzel Studio is looking for a studio manager to join our award winning team of furniture makers and designers based in Woolwich, south east London. We pride ourselves on innovative design, challenging technical joinery and pushing the boundaries of what it means to work with wood.
We are looking for an experienced studio manager to help manage the day to day running of the studio and workshop, the steady growth of our business, and our expanding roster of exciting bespoke projects. You will take initial enquiries through to final delivery – liaising with clients and contractors, and maintain and develop organisational systems that ensure projects meet budgets, deadlines and client expectations.
At heart, the essential job requirements are excellent organisation and communication, a good understanding of a production focussed business and client needs in the high-end design sector, adaptability within a small team, and a passion for furniture and design. We want to build on the success of our recent work, and are looking for someone who will join us on our journey to new heights, helping to shape and steer our future direction.

The position is based in our Woolwich studio, South East London. We are open to full or part time applicants and there is some degree of flexibility dependent on circumstances.
Key responsibilities:
- liaising with management, workshop and studio teams, time-tabling design and fabrication, and keeping records of project costs and staff time
- being the first point of contact for clients, customers and contractors
- bookkeeping and financial management; liaising with accountants monthly, bank reconciliation, filing, project invoicing, payroll
- ordering supplies and maintaining supplier/materials databases
- managing online shop orders (shopify) and assisting with website updates (WordPress) and marketing activities
- streamlining and improving project management systems
- day to day organisation and maintenance of the studio
- assisting with the structured development and growth of the business
- organising staff appraisals, project reviews and general HR duties
- diary and logistics management, organising transport and delivery of furniture worldwide
- helping to organise public events, exhibitions and studio/workshop visits
- assisting with project proposal and tender documents, pricing quotes and lead times
Skills:
- highly organised, proactive and efficient studio manager
- excellent verbal and written communication
- good working knowledge of office, google workspace and other organisational software
- knowledge of bookkeeping software (we use Xero and Dext)
- confident at liaising with suppliers, contractors and clients
- understanding of a bespoke production focussed business
- personable team player and communicator in a busy (and sometimes noisy) work environment
Experience
Highly desirable:
- minimum of two years studio management experience
- experience in the production sector
Of interest:
- working on sustainably-driven projects
- a design background
- an understanding of timber products
