We are currently looking for a junior product designer to join our design team in the management, design and development of both core products and one-off installations. This role includes producing concept drawings, liaising with clients and manufacturers and seeing projects through to delivery/installation.

We are looking for someone who sees the advantages of working in a smaller team, a self-motivated individual who can work independently whilst staying involved in the entire creative process with your colleagues. To succeed in this role, you’ll need to showcase strong technical ability and excellent presentation skills. You’ll be able to combine creative skills with an understanding of the practical project management considerations which make a project a success, and all this will also come with a very good understanding of IT and software, used both in the creation process and the presentations that accompany a project.

Hoad & More operate from a studio in rural Hertfordshire, so you’ll need to be able to get to our Studio in the beautiful countryside near Leighton Buzzard easily.

About you:

  • you have a master’s or bachelor’s degree in industrial design, product design or equivalent
  • you can demonstrate a creative flair with a keen eye for quality and design with great attention to detail
  • you are able to think creatively but to design and translate technically using 3D CAD software
  • you are able to communicate well to a wider team including manufacturers and clients
  • you have an interest in materials and manufacturing processes as well as a logical and pragmatic approach to problem-solving
  • you can comfortably manage your time and workload in a fast-paced design environment
  • you have experience of working with lighting products directly, or a keen interest in this industry
  • you have proven experience with 3D CAD software such as Solidworks, Fusion 360, or Inventor, and Adobe Creative Suite Products

Preferred skill set:

  • ability to manage a concept through to delivery/installation
  • knowledge of the full design to manufacture process
  • excellent presentation and graphic design skills
  • experience of KeyShot would be advantageous
  • ability to work independently, be self-motivated and work towards a goal
  • knowledge of manufacturing techniques and materials, including both traditional and digital manufacturing techniques
  • interest in sourcing and investigating new ways of working
  • practical ability to produce and assemble prototypes in the workshop will be an advantage
  • experience of dealing with clients directly and building good working relationships
  • experience in sourcing new suppliers (UK and overseas) and establishing working relationships for production and sample runs
  • ability to manage project delivery from new and established manufacturers for on-time, on-budget arrival

Role responsibilities:

  • resigning creative, technically accurate and safe solutions
  • owning projects and become the responsible point of contact within the eesign team
  • problem-solving for manufacture, prototype and on-site installation scenarios
  • exploring new materials and processes
  • staying ahead of all projects and keeping in regular contact with clients and the Sales team
  • translating concepts into manufacture-ready products and producing accurate technical drawings for manufacture
  • sourcing new suppliers and establishing good working relationships
  • working with external suppliers, manufacturers and fabricators
  • specifying materials, finishing and aesthetic finishes based on cost and the client’s requirements
