SP3 London is hiring a senior designer/project lead to join its team in London.

Full-time, Monday to Friday.

Permanent (or contract may be considered).

Remote/flexible working arrangements with required travel in and around London (each case will be discussed and this will be discretionary).

20 days holiday (for permanent role only) plus bank holidays upon completion of six-month probation.

SP3 acts as a central point of contact for our clients, managing everything from the design to sourcing the right consultants, coordinating the team, and managing the process from start to finish. We ensure that the design is being managed on site in order to achieve a high-quality end product. We are flexible in our approach and can provide any one of our services individually or a turnkey solution covering them all.

The role

Your role as senior designer/project lead is to oversee all project design and deliverables on a variety of project types and sizes through all phases. With a background in interior design and design management you will lead, as well as actively design where necessary, our project team of design thinkers and doers who specialise in helping to tell stories and create experiences in the context of residential, commercial and hospitality. As a key decision maker, we will expect you to draw on your previous experience as a project lead as well as develop and nurture positive relationships with existing client contacts, optimising all potential opportunities.

Project-specific responsibilities:

  • maintain a clear and detailed understanding of existing clients’ business objectives, plans, target audience and market trends, and ensure that appropriate opportunities are identified to generate further demand for SP3 services
  • creatively lead the team with innovative input into project deliverables as necessary, as well as managing own deliverables
  • work creatively with designers and the marketing team to ensure that the project story reflects the client’s requirements and that any required resources are in place
  • partake and coordinate the creative side of the project and input as required with drawings, presentations, schedules etc.
  • responsible for the day-to-day delivery of projects throughout the complete project cycle including clarity of project requirements, clearly defined deliverables are identified and monitored on Asana at each stage of the project, and that fee schedules are aligned against each deliverable
  • focus on the smooth management of the complete project process ensuring understanding of requirements, deliverables and timelines, visibility against fees throughout the project and, more importantly, that the design is being delivered
  • create the design output through all RIBA stages, including the review of design presentations before they are issued to the client
  • coordinate and communicate project work plans, budgets, and deliverables for client and internal teams, producing reports and updates as and when required by project lead
  • manage the client input/review process including coordination of changes with the client
  • allocation of team responsibilities and resources
  • direct on the design output through all RIBA stages 1-5
  • oversee the efficient delivery of detailed contractor drawings submitted through the design stages to ensure compliance with the client brief – to include apartment layouts, kitchens, bathrooms, joinery items
  • prepare, communicate, and monitor project work plans, budgets, and deliverables for client and internal teams
  • prepare and review proposals, contracts, and consultant agreements if required
  • produce project reports and updates as and when required, including reporting back to project director on a weekly basis
  • successful problem solving and resolution planning through consultation with the client, designers and wider team to ensure maximum client satisfaction
  • oversee the relationships with the consultant design team and the contractor team to ensure smooth flow of information
  • complete client debriefs and explore future opportunities with the client

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • design management experience, preferably in the residential and hospitality industry
  • educated to minimum degree level, or higher, in interior design or architecture
  • minimum five to eight years’ experience in a similar senior designer/project lead role
  • experience in residential/hotel design
  • strong creative flare with the ability to design and lead the design team creatively
  • project management background with rich experience overseeing the fulfilment of complete project life cycles of varying types and sizes
  • strong interpersonal skills: a clear communicator, proactive in establishing and managing relationships effectively to achieve targets and goals within a given timeframe; upwards, within the team and cross functionally
  • clear and succinct report and brief writing, including the ability to present and effectively summarise the key messages for the audience
  • good organisational and time management skills, with a proven ability to prioritise and manage large workloads in a demanding environment
  • aptitude with using contractor document management systems such as Acconex/Procore
  • understanding of architect plans and construction drawings
  • demonstrable success in customer service delivery and appraisal
  • excellent track record of performance
  • understanding of cost analysis
  • proficiency in CAD drawing skills, Photoshop, Microsoft Office (presentations and report writing), setting up and managing excel spreadsheets
