Dawson Design Associates is seeking a senior interior designer/interior architect to join its team in Brighton, UK.

Dawson Design Associates is an award-winning and internationally recognised creative design agency specialising in luxury level lifestyle hospitality. We are seeking a senior level interior architect/interior designer, ideally with some project management experience to join our Brighton/Seattle Offices. At DDA we train holistic designers that understand all aspects of producing a project and that can think and solve problems for themselves. You will be expected to learn all aspects of design including interior design, interior architecture and hotel operations and work in all phases of design and production.

Please note, due to required training, this is not a remote (work from home) position. After one year with proven experience, days in office can be negotiated with a minimum of three days per work week. We work collaboratively and brainstorm most effectively as a group. Remote individuals need not apply.

The successful candidate must possess: 

  • creative talent and professionalism
  • great communication skills
  • an undergraduate or graduate degree in Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited university
  • five to ten years of professional work experience in interior architecture for hospitality design, restaurant design, or retail design with some project management experience idea
  • interior architects should be comfortable in conceptually developing 3D space, have a solid understanding of luxury level detailing including interior finishes, millwork, joinery detailing and fabrication drawings and very experienced in creating interior architecture permit sets of construction drawings
  • interior designers should have a solid understanding of luxury style and trends internationally, with sound product knowledge. Must be confident and comfortable in creating stylised FF&E vignettes with strong colour and material skills
  • articulate in English both verbally and in writing. DDA is 80% comprised of internationals from around the globe. English is the common language, and you must be fluent and easily understood
  • knowledge of construction terminology and fabrication is required for both positions
  • interior designers must have experience in producing custom furniture drawings for tender, FF&E specifications and commercial code knowledge for fire and durability
  • experience tracking construction progress and working with contractors and purchasing agents from execution of drawings through completion and punch lists
  • advanced skills in AutoCAD, including layering, FTP coordination, rendering and 3D applications
  • experience in managing and tracking a project from the initial concept phase to completed construction
  • experience managing and scheduling a small team
  • a willingness and eagerness to mentor and train junior design staff
    comfortable and confident working under dead line and under pressure, while still delivering outstanding results
  • highly organized and process-oriented
  • high energy and enthusiasm
  • a desire to work in a team setting and an excitement to share knowledge and ideas with others
  • a strong work ethic, sense of professionalism, and a desire to constantly learn

Preferred skills/competencies: 

  • experience with SketchUp, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
  • on-site and construction administration experience
  • the ability to occasionally travel
  • superior hand-drawing and sketching ability
