Position summary – architectural designer
Under supervision the Designer, provides design assistance for a wide variety of project types, including architecture, renovation work, new buildings, and interiors work. Building Types include commercial, institutional, federal, transportation and utility clients. Performs routine assignments which are defined with supervisor and require the application of standard design techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Responsibilities – architecture designer:
- prepares basic plans, details, and initial set up work on projects
- prepares 3D imaging using proprietary software for client and in house presentations as directed by supervisor
- learns basic code evaluation procedure and information gathering requirements for review with supervisor
- supports efforts for studies and reports and assists with preparation of routine technical reports or sections of reports
- assists with sheet set up on project drawings, drawing schedules, plans, elevations, sections, and details
- assists with pick up of redline markings on drawings and completion of work
- individual can work proficiently on their own with direction from supervisor
- capable of recognizing when to ask questions so they may continue with work efficiently within their time schedule for the project while limiting interruptions of the supervisor and workflow of others on the project team
- generates take offs for cost estimates and performs architectural square foot or other appropriate calculations in support of architectural activities involving the design of architectural systems, components, or features
- gathers and records information such as product information and cut sheets to be used for cost estimating and specifications
Qualifications and requirements:
- bachelor of architecture degree
- in process of fulfilling designer requirements/path for licensure
- two to three years’ of experience in an architectural office
- capable of using and proficient experience with AutoCAD, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Revit
- SketchUp, 3D software, Rendering software, Photoshop
- working knowledge of design software
- proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- good oral and written communication skills
