Run for The Hills is hiring a middleweight interior designer to join its team in London.
Run for The Hills is an award-winning London based multi-disciplinary design studio, fusing interior design and branding. We design exciting and unique commercial and residential spaces, including hotels, bars, restaurants, workspaces and private homes across the UK and overseas.
Opening for a middleweight interior designer
We are on the hunt for an experienced middleweight interior designer. Working into the creative directors and senior designers, but very much running the design, client handling and management of their own jobs day-to-day. The ideal person will need fantastic design skills, and good experience running projects already. With a minimum of three to four years’ experience in the commercial and residential bespoke design.
An overview of the role
You will work across multiple projects at any one time, leading at least half of them on your own and working into larger projects underneath the senior design team.
Day-to-day design work:
- researching and scoping design deliverables for your projects
- agreeing design schedules and timings with clients
- creating preliminary, developed and technical design proposals
- detailed CAD design and directing juniors in their CAD designs
- space planning, driving out flows, covers and operational layouts
- working up design concepts, mood boards and sketch references
- crafting developed designs with developed scheme materials palettes
- creating detailed technical design packs and tender documentation
- including plans, sections, elevations and details
- drawing up electrical, M&E, sanitaryware and bespoke joinery packs
- sourcing and scheduling FF&E, materials and decorative specifications
- preparing creative briefs for the 3D visualiser and art-direct renders
- creating SketchUp models and/or hand sketches and perspectives
- collaging in Photoshop and creating presentations in Adobe InDesign
- prepping technical and creative materials for client meetings
Day-to-day project coordination
You will also be responsible for the creative and operational project co-ordination of interior design projects assigned directly to you.
Managing your own workload and that of juniors, keeping to project timings:
- acting as lead designer, client handler and coordinator on your projects
- leading all email communication with clients and external team members
- managing deadlines and delivery of work
- ensuring the design meets the brief, comes to life well and within budget
- delegating, supervising & driving the work of more junior team members
- keeping paperwork and project documentation in order
- ensuring we and the client adhere to sign off and approval procedures
- giving clients clear and accurate project updates and reconciliations
- leading internal studio meetings with clients and suppliers
- writing up agendas for client meetings to guide discussion
- summarising meeting notes with action points
- sending design work to clients and wider project teams for review
- finding suppliers, briefing them and calling in pro forma invoices
- working up budget estimates and reconciliations for Materials and FF&E
- Calling in quotes from suppliers and partners to help with budgeting
- analysing prices and specifications and presenting findings
- checking supplier and contractor quotes for accuracy and hidden costs
- checking purchase orders and pro formas
- obtaining client approval on costs before purchase
- final procurement and negotiation with suppliers
- sourcing new suppliers and partners, particularly sustainable choices
- attending and leading site meetings with client and contractors
- directing the administrative work of junior designers and interns
Skills and experience needed (the essentials):
- you must have a recognised professional interiors qualification
- areally cool design portfolio, highly creative and technically strong
- at least three to four years’ experience in an interior design/architecture studio
- track record delivering multiple hospitality and residential design projects
- strong Vectorworks and/or AutoCAD skills (essential)
- excellent technical skills with a beady eye for detail
- great knowledge of materials, detailing and scheduling
- track record of being highly organised and able to work under pressure
- proven experience leading your own projects in a client-facing capacity
- ability to prioritise, delivering to agreed budgets and project timings
- excellent interpersonal skills with Clients, contractors and suppliers
- be positive and entrepreneurial, with the ability to inspire clients and team
- experience using Adobe In Design for creating presentations
- ability to delegate tasks to others and to mentor juniors and interns
- examples dealing with issues on projects and coming up with solutions
- experience creating technical and decorative schemes for live projects
- examples of production of detailed specification schedules
- experience producing detailed CAD plans, elevations and detail drawings
- examples of issuing of information and drawing issue updates
- track record co-ordinating info and drawings with external consultants
- experience with specialists to design and procure bespoke products
- strong construction, on-site knowledge and experience, inc snagging
- good Word and Excel skills
Our studio
We work from a lovely studio space on Lonsdale Road in Queen’s Park (London, NW6). We are 15 strong and a friendly bunch. We love positive, can-do people.
Our projects
We get involved in almost every aspect of designing the spaces we create, from the exterior shopfront and signage to the design of the interiors, lighting, creation of original art and lots of bespoke product design. We have a dedicated graphic design team, who devise the branding, visual identity, website and in-venue graphics for our spatial designs, creating a seamless concept across brand and interiors. On the residential side, we design all kinds of private residences from listed barns to urban lofts, townhouses and country homes.
Salary
£25-35k/annum
Salary and benefits are competitive and based on candidate experience.
