Studio MAI is hiring a furniture designer to join its team in Barcelona, Spain.

Interior, product design and manufacturing company specialising in hospitality seeks an energetic and qualified furniture and product designer to further strengthen our firm’s design offerings.

This position will be on project by project basis with a commitment to long-term collaboration.

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

• design and develop furniture, fixtures and accessories to  meet project briefs, objectives and constraints as well as Studio MAI’s brand of design
• produce preliminary presentations based on research as well as hand sketches to show initial concepts
• produce detailed 3D models and renders to show development of concept
• test the design concept with computerised modelling and/or physical testing of models
• conduct in-depth research on materials and processCollaborate with production manager to develop prototypes in different countries around the world
• keeping up to date with the contemporary design and hospitality landscape

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

• ability to work as part of a team throughout the design process and incorporate feedback from team and clients
• demonstrated conceptual approach to design
• ability to communicate design ideas visually and through oral presentation with strong hand sketching skills and/or 3D modelling skills
• wide knowledge of a variety of materials and finishes
• strong organisational skills with ability to set priorities, meet strict timelines as well as a keen eye for detail.
• have advance knowledge of Rhino, Shapr3D and working knowledge of AutoCAD
• five years’ plus post college experience working in furniture design and production
• background in FF&E very beneficial
• basic understanding of residential and or commercial construction methods beneficial
• bilingual beneficial
