kg&a is seeking a media relations manager to join its team in Toronto, Canada.

kg&a is an award-winning communications strategy firm. Over the last decade we’ve earned our reputation specialising in city building and the urban landscape. Our niche is residential and commercial real estate, urban design, economic development and placemaking. We know the landscape inside and out and understand that landing a story is great but building our clients’ story is better.

kg&a is looking to hire a media relations specialist to join our growing, dynamic team. Successful candidates should be entrepreneurial self-starters with a minimum of five plus years of PR or digital-related industry experience.

Full-time and freelance opportunities are both available. While kg&a is located in Toronto, Canada, candidates can work remote from anywhere in the world.

Role and responsibilities:

  • develop and execute media campaign strategies to achieve client objectives, in collaboration with client account leads
  • proactively identify compelling campaign narratives that are rooted in global issues of the moment
  • develop and execute story pitches that demonstrate a clear and acute understanding of the built environment
  • secure client opportunities within both local, national and international press
  • demonstrate a proven ability to position clients as thought leaders both within and outside of the design/built environment media landscape
  • build a comprehensive network of key journalists that work within the architecture and design media space
  • coordinate media interviews and photoshoots
  • field incoming media requests
  • stay on top of relevant news cycles and architecture & design industry trends and issues
  • draft media advisories, Q&A’s, fact sheets, photo cutlines, as needed
  • editorial and advertorial writing, as needed
  • manage and maintain up-to-date media lists and contacts
  • track day-to-day press coverage of clients

Skills and qualifications:

  • minimum experience five plus years in a similar role
  • post-secondary diploma/degree in journalism, public relations or a related field
  • proven experience securing media stories that supported client goals
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • entrepreneurial spirit and thrives on creativity
  • deep understanding of the ever-changing media landscape
  • strong time management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • works well in a collaborative environment
  • previous experience in real estate, city-building, design industries an asset
