&U studio is seeking an architectural technologist or Part 2 architectural assistant to join its team in London.
&U studio has an opportunity for an architectural technologist or experienced Part 2 architectural assistant to join its studio in Hackney East London E15. Initially on a two month contract with an opportunity for a full time position going forward.
We are a small design-led practice specialising in sustainable architecture, including educational, residential and community projects, from new build through to deep retrofit. Our aim is to deliver inspiring energy efficient buildings and places, with a sensitive approach to site context and a focus on wellbeing.
We offer an engaging work environment, with an open and collaborative approach to design practices both digital and analogue, along with innovative research and development projects.
We are based at Here East in one of the low energy WikiHouse structures alongside other creative studios, a short walk from both Stratford and Hackney Wick stations.
Applicants should have a good working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe CS programmes and NBS specification, with demonstrable experience in working within RIBA Stage 4. We also work with Revit, Twinmotion, Blender and Rhino (project dependant).
The successful candidate will have a proactive technical approach as well as excellent design, presentation and communication skills.
Key areas of responsibility:
- producing drawings for planning and building control applications
- producing tender and construction phase drawing packages and schedules of work
- liaising directly with external consultants eg structural and civil/mechanical engineers to obtain specific technical details to include within drawings
- attending on-site meetings and managing queries as required
Skills:
- keen eye for detail
- strong teamwork and communication skills
- advanced knowledge of detailed technical design and construction methods
- technical – understanding of UK building regulations, LABC, NHBC and associated construction guidance
- project management – the ability to work on simultaneous projects with a quick turnaround of thorough, detailed, accurate drawings
- ability to prepare detailed and fully coordinated working drawing packages within agreed timescales
- managing tender processes – documentation, issuing and analysing
- contract administration – understanding and experience in administering building contracts, issuing instructions and dealing with requests for information
- 2D AutoCAD, with 3D SketchUp drawings skills
- knowledge and experience of energy efficient detailing and Passivhaus standards (PHHP designer accreditation a bonus)
Essential:
- relevant industry qualification, ideally CIAT or RIBA Part 2
- current eligibility to work in the UK and good written and spoken English
