Tawaw Architecture Collective is seeking a senior architect to join its team in Phoenix, USA.
Tawaw means ‘welcome’ in Cree. We are a design-research firm based in Phoenix, AZ and Calgary, AB. We are a staff of 19 and are quickly growing due to our specialisation: equity-focused and Indigenous-driven architecture. We employ the most Indigenous designers in any firm in North America and partner with nationally and internationally acclaimed firms around the world. As a leader in Indigenous design, we specialise in the early phases (pre-design, SD and DD), including design-research and engagement, and are starting to work through all phases of work on a number of projects in the firm. Our project types include cultural centres, higher education, daycares, K-12 projects, urban mixed use and reserve housing. Our projects are in Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario), California and Arizona, and expanding to other US states.
Our ideal candidate: we are currently seeking a full-time, enthusiastic licensed project architect with 10 to 15 years of experience in a design-oriented office.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- 10-15 years’ of experience
- software required: Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office Suite
- extensive knowledge of US building systems, codes and ADA requirements
- self-motivated, strong work ethic and a high level of accountability
- excellent written and spoken communication skills
- excellent client relations skills
- attention to detail and solid understanding of construction means and methods
- accredited Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture degree
- registered architect required
Responsibilities:
- responsible for project management, design and overall coordination
- responsible for projects’ technical design; provides planning/design/coordination consultation on large, complex projects; reviews/approves conceptual designs
- responsible for specific technical design aspects including investigation, evaluation and recommendation of design solutions
- independently makes decisions on significant architectural design problems and methods
- carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures
- ability to mentor junior team members on all aspects of project execution and management
- travel may be required
- remote/work from home for the first few months will be required until the new office is set up
