Part 1 and 2 architectural assistants
at DO+CO

Darren Oldfield Architects is seeking Part 1 and 2 architectural assistants to join its award-winning London practice.

Established in 2013, for a decade we have been making happy buildings for people to lead long and fulfilled lives in them. Our first mission is not profit: it is good quality, fair and sustainable design.

We provide sustainable, inventive and meticulously designed architecture to a range of residential and commercial clients. Our substantial client base in London and the South East of England has expanded further afield to the home counties and Scotland.

We reject the long working hours cultures of architecture and provide generous holiday, including office closure over Christmas and New Year.

Other benefits include cycle scheme and discretionary end of year bonuses. We emphasise equality, inclusion and belonging in all our working environments, including at recruitment stage.

We are now looking to recruit highly motivated, quick-to-learn and diligent Part 1 and 2 architectural assistants to join our office, based in West Dulwich. These are primarily studio-based roles.

The right Part 1 candidate will gain early stage, hands-on architectural experience supporting several of the practice’s smaller residential projects, working alongside a supportive and close-knit team. Main duties and responsibilities include sketch design and hand drawing, using Photoshop, InDesign and 3D modelling/rendering.

The right Part 2 candidate will gain first-hand experience in running several of the practice’s smaller residential projects, in addition to the above duties.

As we are a small practice, the right people for the role will be enthusiastic and keen to get involved in all aspects of the architectural process, leading to excellent opportunities for Part 2 or Part 3 study and beyond. The successful candidate will have:

  • RIBA Part 1 or 2 architectural qualification
  • if Part 2 qualified, at least one year’s work experience in a UK architecture practice
  • immaculate written and spoken English
  • excellent interpersonal, verbal and graphical communication skills
  • strong ability to work independently, in a responsible and self-motivated manner
  • excellent team-working skills

The following is desirable:

  • proficiency using Mac, Vectorworks and Sketchup

Salary range:

Part 1: £23,500-£25,000

Part 2: £27,000-£32,000 dependent on experience

Application deadline: 5pm Friday 14 July 2023
