Gallery manager

Modernity is looking for a gallery manager to join its team in Stockholm, Sweden.

Modernity specialises in the collection and sale of rare and high-grade furniture, ceramics, glass, lighting and jewellery by the most renowned Nordic designers of the twentieth century. We are seeking a highly organised and experienced gallery manager to join our Stockholm team. The ideal candidate will have strong administrative and sales skills, as they will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the office and gallery. They will manage various administrative duties, join the sales department and ensure the smooth functioning of the gallery. This is a back-end role with a focus on gallery management, but the candidate will also be expected and encouraged to actively contribute to sales efforts and generate turnover.

Responsibilities:

Sales:

  • offer information to our clients about our collection
  • develop good foundation knowledge of our collection to convey information accurately to clients
  • answer phone calls and respond to sales and logistics-related emails promptly and professionally
  • actively contribute to sales efforts by suggesting strategies to increase sales and generate turnover
  • liaise with the sales team to identify potential clients and expand the gallery’s client reach

Administrative management:

  • handle the gallery’s day-to-day operations
  • liaise with the directors to discuss furniture restoration/reupholstery, ensuring all necessary arrangements are made
  • assist with the gallery’s curation, ensuring a visually appealing and engaging gallery space
  • coordinate shipments of furniture, lighting, artworks, etc to clients worldwide and to our London gallery

Requirements:

Experience:

  • previous experience in a gallery management or assisting role, preferably within the art and design industry
  • strong interest in sales with a focus on generating revenue and expanding client reach
  • familiarity with vintage Nordic design is desirable
  • EU driving license, though this is not essential

Administrative skills:

  • excellent organisational and multitasking abilities, with a keen eye for detail
  • proficiency in handling administrative tasks, including record-keeping, logistics coordination and email management
  • strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and adapt to changing circumstances

Sales and communication skills:

  • client-orientated approach and ability to close deals effectively
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate information about Modernity’s collection clearly and confidently
  • excellent in written and spoken English. Another language is not a requirement but is desirable
  • strong interpersonal skills, capable of building and maintaining relationships with clients and colleagues

  • ability to thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment and manage priorities effectively
