Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo is hiring a designer to join the team in London, UK.

The designer provides essential design and/or technical support in the Wimberly Interiors Studio and shadows intermediate and senior staff to develop design deliverables for various projects.  The designer receives specific and detailed instructions as to the tasks required and the results expected. The designer assists in the preparation and updating of drawings, presentations, graphics, CAD design and sketching, FF&E specifications, furnishing, colour and material board fabrication, model making, FF&E sourcing, resource organization and general administrative tasks for the studio. The designer is responsible for working with the project team to assist in the overall effort of completing various project phases. The designer reports to the senior designer, project or creative director or other senior team leaders.

Responsibilities:

  • modifies and prepares production drawings during design development phase
  • assists with sourcing and product research
  • prepares furnishing, colour and material boards, and specifies FF&E
  • updates design documents and drawings, rendered plans and section elevations
  • develops solutions to technical and design problems following established standards
  • incorporates integrated sustainable design solutions into the projects
  • assists with concept presentations, and prepares graphics and design drawings
  • builds models for client and project team review
  • compiles data and performs fundamental design computations
  • maintains and organises the design library when required
  • coordinates with outside vendors
  • fosters a green workplace through sustainable work practices
  • fosters a commitment to external and internal client service

Expectations in the role:

  • uses established practices and procedures to complete assignments with instruction and direct supervision, able to work independently when suitable
  • has basic knowledge of design, trends, materials application and construction methodology, including building regulations and safety codes
  • understands graphic design concepts, such as hand sketching, vignette scenes, colouring, rendering of interior drawings and shop drawings
  • has fundamental knowledge of FF&E, architectural and interior finishes, lighting, art signage, colour and materials to carry out design intent
  • possesses a basic level of understanding in interior design concepts, such as space planning and programming
  • participates in team meetings to align the project deliverables to the design intent
  • travel may be required
  • overtime may be required

Qualifications for the role:

  • bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design or related field
  • recent graduate to four plus years experience in design-related projects
  • working toward environmental accreditation desired
  • technical expertise in MS Office, Adobe Suite, DesignSmart, AutoCAD, SketchUp and other design tools; some Revit experience preferred
  • sketching skills required
  • ability to work in a team environment, managing multiple project priorities simultaneously
  • ability to meet deadlines effectively
  • effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills
