Matt Vines Consulting is seeking a communications director or account director to join its team in London.

Founded in 2015 and working globally from London, Matt Vines Consulting (MVC) offers highly specialised services in strategic brand communications and relationship management for architectural, design, landscape and development practices. Within this portfolio of built environment and place-making projects is a division of design-led travel clients, in the form of hotel, hospitality and aviation clients.

We provide strategies, relationships and assets that consolidate brand identity and positioning to a positive, durable effect. They encompass three core areas: brand image, relationship management and communications strategy.

Current live client projects include work for Caon Design Office, studio Paphitis C.I, Studio Henry Wilson, Akin Atelier, Jamesplumb Studio, Molonglo, Francis Gallery, the JB Blunk Estate, Tamsin Johnson, Hotel Corazon, plus two new hotel openings in Switzerland and Australia in 2024. Ongoing strategic counsel is also being offered to a number of developers, investors, and high-net-worth individuals.

Current collaborative client projects include work with or for David Chipperfield Architects, 6a Architects, Aesop, Qantas Airlines, Zara Home, Jasper Morrison, Martino Gamper, Max Lamb, Dan Pearson Studio, Green River Projects, Vince Skelly, Peter Märkli, Sigurd Larsen Architects and Pezo von Ellrichshausen.

Opportunity 

We are looking for an individual to take on the role of communications manager. This key role is responsible for defining and executing international media strategies, in line with our client’s brand and business objectives.

Communication is fundamental to life. We are all storytellers – the exchange of ideas and information is the means by which our lives have become increasingly sophisticated. MVC’s approach to communications is encapsulated in the adage that marketing should respond to human behaviour and influence it in a relevant and helpful way, never as spam or spin.

Using their deep knowledge of the industry and connections therein, the communications manager will initiate, develop and nurture strong relationships with media, editors and writers. The communications manager will secure key placements in a broad but carefully selected international target group of traditional and digital architecture, design, lifestyle, travel and news media.

Key responsibilities: 

  • ceation and execution of individual client communications strategies
  • creation and execution of individual client relationship strategies
  • involvement in client brand strategy creation
  • press office function management
  • day-to-day client liaison and relations
  • liaising with and managing junior support staff, admin staff, and freelance consultants and contractors
  • briefing, selecting and managing creative partners: writers, photographers, render artists

Candidate experience

Agency or the in-house equivalent of  SAM – SAD, or at least five years in a similar role.

Requirements for the role include:

  • proven track record of designing strong communications plans from concept to creation, implementation and delivering results
  • strong existing relationships with relevant UK and USA media, editors and writers
  • relationships in other key markets, such as Europe, is preferred but not necessary
  • well-established connections and relationships within relevant industries and sectors
  • must possess strong interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities (including visual, verbal and written) enabling meaningful engagement with diverse stakeholders to foster constructive conversations on a variety of subjects
  • outstanding ability to understand social dynamics
  • someone who is strategic, autonomous, thoughtful, positive, focused, detail-oriented and results-driven
  • communications, marketing, journalism, design or architecture degree preferred, but not essential
  • excellent time and organisational management skills
  • proficiency in managing and overseeing projects from start to finish

Location 

Three or four working days in the London office at Soho Works White City and other days where your location is flexible. Soho Works membership is included in the package with the ability to access and work from other locations in Shoreditch, 180 The Strand and Soho.

White City is a well-connected and easily commutable hub on the Central, District, Hammersmith and City tube lines.

Hours

This role can either be full-time or pro-rated to three or four days a week. Standard hours will be 9 am to 6 pm, with some flexible working hours. Hybrid working is available. Summer hours are also available.

Package

Salary and official job title is to be agreed depending on the experience of the successful candidate. Bonus opportunity will be based on personal and business performance.
