Graduate furniture development role
at Boss Design
Boss Design has a vacancy for a graduate furniture development role for its team in Dudley, UK.
Due to continued international growth, we are looking for a highly skilled junior designer to join the award-winning design team at Boss Design. Candidates should have a furniture, industrial or product design degree, or relevant masters.
The role will encompass the design and development of a broad range of furniture for many of the world’s most prestigious international clients and represents a rare opportunity to accelerate your skills and knowledge across a wide variety of tasks.
A keen eye for detail and construction, as well as an interest in the furniture market, are a must. An interest in new materials, processes and sustainable design should be demonstrated, along with excellent CAD modelling skills.
The position is offered with a degree of flexibility but will be based at the company’s UK headquarters in Dudley, West Midlands.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- working with the senior designer under the supervision of the designer director
- contributing concept ideas to the design team
- support in the production of 3D renderings and visuals for product concept generation
- producing concept variations to increase the level of concept exploration
- exploration of new and sustainable materials to incorporate into new and existing product lines
- support in the development of concepts, including component modelling and production drawings
- support in product handover information, including exploded assembly instructions, videos, illustrations and bills of material
- value engineer existing products to make them easier or more efficient to manufacture
- checking first-off components and prototypes against drawings as they arrive at the design office
Key skills and experience:
- a degree or masters in a relevant design-related subject
- a natural curiosity and passion for the creative process
- excellent 3D modelling skills using SolidWorks (Keyshot would be a bonus)
- skilled in Adobe Creative Suite
- good sketching skills
- practical with good model-making skills
- excellent communication skills
- the ability to thrive in a busy environment and work well under pressure
- fluent verbal and written English
- the legal right to work in the UK and travel in Europe and the USA
Salary will be dependent on experience.
