Junior interior designer
at Rachel Usher Interior Design

Rachel Usher Interior Design is seeking a junior interior designer to join its studio in Doncaster, UK.

About us

At Rachel Usher Interior Design we don’t view our work as simply a 9-5. To us it’s a mission – a career where you are part of a diverse team who are passionate about each and every aspect of the interior design process; from concept, scheme and design to the not-so-glamorous phases of transforming a clients space.

We don’t see ourselves as just ‘an interior design studio’ – our team understands that our work within the practice is worth more than that. We create experiences and enhance lifestyles, thinking past the notion that design relates to aesthetics only.

We embrace individuality within a relaxed, collaborative work environment and our small, but perfectly formed team are dedicated, committed and loyal – not only to their individual role or duties but to each other too.

About the role

Supporting the design director,  you will deliver high-end interior design projects for both residential and commercial clients. You will be required to engage with suppliers, clients and contractors throughout the interior design process, from initial concepts right through to our white-glove service upon completion. For this reason it is an essential requirement to possess high-level communication and organisational skills  – experience within the interiors industry, working with clients and contractors directly is desirable.

It is vital that you are a strong conceptual designer who can translate and communicate ideas effectively through strong technical visuals including; hand-sketches, drawing packs, layouts, internal sections, elevations and joinery detailing. You will have an eye for colour and texture and will not be afraid to push the boundaries in luxury design with a modern and contemporary approach.

This will be a temporary six month, full-time contract with the potential to transition into a permanent position once complete.

Salary will be offered dependent on relevant industry experience.

Role requirements:

  • experience of Apple Mac systems
  • qualified to degree or equivalent level in interior design or architecture
  • AutoCAD and Adobe Suite fluency
  • high level elevation drawing and presentation skills
  • high-level ability to communicate with both clients and contractors
  • industry relevant commercial awareness
  • industry experience specifying, purchasing and invoicing
  • knowledge of Estimac or similar project management software
  • full UK drivers licence with access to own vehicle

Who we’re looking for

To join our team you must have previous relevant experience but also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • technical aptitude
  • collaborative working and a can-do attitude
  • an understanding of  how design affects the senses
  • creativity
  • ambition to succeed within the high-end residential and commercial design sector
  • willingness to work outside of contracted hours when required

We understand that as a junior designer you may not have had the opportunity to develop an extensive portfolio. In the absence of this you will be required to demonstrate creativity and technical skills through an academic portfolio, showcasing designs that would be transferable to projects of a commercial level.
