Public Practice is a not-for-profit social enterprise and placement programme that aims to improve the quality of everyday spaces. Launched by the Mayor of London and six other founding partners in 2017, the programme connects architects, designers and other practitioners with borough planning departments.
Since the 1980s, councils have lacked in-house design thinking as local authority architects' departments and planning teams were closed down. Public Practice is reinvigorating the planning profession by increasing the expertise within planning departments, championing holistic place-based strategies that are spatially, socially and economically inclusive and sustainable.
The firm works on projects across London, the South East and East of England.
